House and wanted to get it your direction: looking at Arkansas Civil War military rosters leads me (and other House researchers) to believe that our George was mustered with the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (Crawford's). This unit was mustered in the spring of 1863 and fought at Poison Spring and Marks’ Mills, and in Missouri, surrendering as part of the Trans-Mississippi Department. It merged with Wright's Cavalry, among others. George W. House was in Company D, private, enlisted 12 November, 1863 in Camden, which is very close to where he lived, and died "at home" on 1 December, 1863 - perhaps a victim of disease, the biggest killer of the Civil War. Another member of this company was Henry C. Cross, who may have been a member of the family of the wife of George's brother, William Dawson House. There were also Woodall's in the company (brother Jacob's wife's family?) and a bunch of Joneses, perhaps connected to George's mother, Sarah Jane Jones House. Wright's regiment included George Sudsberry, who married George W. House's daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and Edward Bowden, who may be connected to George's sister, LouAnn, as well as three Wood's, who may be connected to Sarah Jane Jones House's second husband - and a number of Joneses in this unit as well. If you would like any further details, please send me your email address and I will forward them. I'd also love to know what you might have on the ancestry of Sarah Jane Jones. thanks, Jane jadresser@earthlink.net
