Named after William Witcher but some say it was named origionally for Salem, Mass. home of the infamous witch trials....? The Stephens family lived just south of Witcherville on the edge of Scott and Sebastian Co., They came from Henry Co., TN to AR and then most went to eastern Oklahoma and later many to California during the "dust bowl" days. The shortstop baseball player, Vern Stephens, who played with the Boston Red Sox and the old St. Louis Browns was descended from this Stephens family.
