Hi, I have a Snelson brick wall that I hope you can help me with. My greatgreatgrandmother was Sally Snelson born June 30 1855 in Stephens. She was a daughter of Iverson Snelson and Berthena Ingram. She married Jacob Snider in 1876 in Stephens. They moved to Buckner, Lafayette Co. AR. Sally's father was Iverson Snelson who had land in Stephens (according to land patents). Iverson was born in GA around 1825. In the 1850 census for Smackover Twp., he is 21. He is listed in the roster for Co. G 11th/17th Ark. Inf. Pvt/Pvt so he was in the Civil War. In the 1860 census for Smackover Twp, a J F Snelson is listed as being 54 and from VA. His name is followed by Berthena, Iverson's wife, and her children with Iverson. Could J F Snelson be Iverson's father who came to help with the farm while Iverson was at war? Also, Iverson and Berthena had more children. James M Snelson b. 12-18-1856 --- d. 7-10-1884 was their son (and brother to my greagreatgrandmother). A kind researched, Jerry McKelvy, found a cemetery in Stephens that had the gravestone for James Snelson near the gravestone for a Josephine Snelson Campbell ( b. 11-25-1861 --- d. 9-29-1888-), wife of W.J. Campbell. Could Josephine be a sister to James Snelson or his wife who remarried after his death a W J Campbell? I'm hoping some help with the collateral lines will bring some light to the Iverson Snelson brick wall. Thank you Sylvia McAllister smcallis@mindspring.com
