Surnames: House, Jones Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XV.2ADI/418.2.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for your reply. I have James T. House as G. W.'s brother, b. 1840. That would also mesh with the age of 20 that I have for his age in the 1870 Census. Sarah Jane Jones House married James A. Wood after G. W. died. So she must have been living in James Wood's home in 1870, as well as her 13 year old son, J.A. W. House. Apparently Sarah and James had children of their own after their marriage. Were there any other House children in the household? John Allen L. House, b. 1852, married in 1874, and Mary Elizabeth, b. 1854, married in 1872, so I would have expected them to be living with their mother, unless they were working in other households. I know little of youngest son, William, b. 1860, but if he is not in James Wood's household, I would expect he died young before that time. George W. House was in the 1st regt. Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Co. K), aka Watie's Regiment, aka 2nd Cherokee Mounted Rifles, AR. I have found little about this regiment or his death in November, 1862, during a skirmish at Honey Creek (near Watie's headquarters). While it is possible that George's wife, Sarah Jane Jones, was part Cherokee, it seems more likely to me that George was, given the lack of identity of his mother. Sarah's parents were apparently Lewis Bridger Jones and Elizabeth Meador. If you know anything about this unit, I'd be grateful for any clues.
