My Fesperman's....Festerman's....Festervan....Vesperman....This is what I've seen the name spelled....I have reason to believe that my Dorcus Eloise (Festerman) b. 1828 in SC? maybe NC....(she was the daughter of Frederick Festerman and Dorcus Radish....) who married Samuel M. Cocke....in Marshall Co, MS, the 26th of JAN, 1856....in 1870 they are on the DeSoto Co, MS census, Arcubutla Township, with four children....Henry 15, James 13, Samuel 10, and ?Sarah? 7 (male)....in 1860 they are on the Marshall Co, MS census, in Holly Springs....in 1880, they are on the MS census, but, Dorcus is dead, Jan 1880, and Samuel has remarried by that June, (when the census was taken....) In 1850, I have Dorcus Eloise Festerman living with her sister, Mary, who was married to J.D, Gordon....and children....Dorcus was single.... I was graciously given a long list of a Festerman line....and at this point I have not found them....I believe that Frederick married Dorcus Radish....?b. 1795?....and they may have married in Mecklenburg Co, NC, 06 JAN 1818....this has not been confirmed....? I do not know if there were any other children, other than Mary and Darcus....? Could be that Frederick was the younger son of Henry Fesperman....although, this is not confirmed....Dorcus (Festerman) and Samuel had James Alexander Cocke who is my grandfather....and the family was living in Tate Co, MS....when Dorcus (1879-1880) and Samuel died (1896).... If you have any information that you'd care to share....I would appreciate anything that you have....Frederick descended from? John Festerman and Henrich....not confirmed.... Thanks, Dee (you'll notice that Darcus and Dorcus was spelled both ways....) ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 3:00 AM Subject: AROUACHI-D Digest V06 #9

Hello to the list! I'm new and asking for help. My g-g-grandpa (Enoch Davis) had a farm near Carouse in Ouchita County for several years, showing up on the federal censuses in 1860 and 1870, and he is probably buried near there too. Have the cemeteries in Ouchita County been indexed and put on-line? I can't find Carouse on the map, but if anyone knows where it was located, I would love to know where. Thanks in advance for any help or advice, Jim Davis in Phoenix, AZ

Camden, AR is my hometown....and have many Knight relatives, living in the area....Does anyone on this board have information about the Knight's Landing Restaurant, that was in the Holiday Inn? This restaurant had memorabilia pertaining to the Knight Family who settled the Knight's Landing, located just outside of Camden. When I found out about this, I took a trip to Camden and discovered that the Holiday Inn had an awful fire. I Was told that there were plans to reopen, but, several visits since then, a year or two later....and it was still vacant.... If anyone can give me some information as to what information was on the walls, etc of the restaurant and what happened to that information? I was told that my aunt sent some things to the city for historical purposes, but, do not know if any of her things were part of the memorabilia that was on the walls of the restaurant. Does anyone remember the restaurant and seeing the pictures, etc. that were on display there?....Please contact me if you have any information and/or some idea of what happened to them [email protected] Thanks, Dee >

Jefferson Township is north of Stephens and lies mostly south of Hwy. 278. There are not major towns there today except for Ogemaw in the extreme southeast corner. The community of Troy is in this township. Woodlawn is shown on 1865 map. Marion Township is east of Jefferson Township. It contains the community of Buena Vista which existed in 1865. Valley Township is northeast of Camden. Present day communities in this township are Harmony Grove and Eagle Mills, but these were not shown on 1865 map. No other towns were shown. Liberty Township is north of Jefferson Township and south of White Oak Lake. No towns there today. Poison Spring is shown on 1865 map where a Civil War battle took place. This is in the extreme northeastern corner of Libety Township. Behestian Township is northeast of Chidester and extends to Tate's Bluff where the Little Missouri River and Ouachita Rivers meet. No major towns there today and none shown on 1865 map. Cathy was right. Chidester, Sayre, and Barham are in Red Hill Township which is north of LibertyTownship and west of Behestian Township.

I'm not sure about all the townships but Behestian Twp is on the Ouachita River they call it Tates Bluff area Liberty is between Chidester and Stephens. Closer to Chidester Jefferson is next to Liberty closer to Stephens in the Troy area. Marion is next to Jefferson going east not sure what community is there anyone know? Re: [AROUACHI] Re: INFO ON JOHN W. HOUSE & WIFE ELIZA NEEDED This is a very busy time inasmuch as my wife is hospitalized following a stroke accompanied by a heart attack. I will do the best I can to help you. There are 7 HOUSE burial records in Ouachita County AR. All early records there were destroyed when lightening struck the courthouse at Camden 19 Dec 1875. Dallas County, which adjoins Ouachita, lists more than a hundred HOUSE burials. These include the burial of John Wesley HOUSE (1852-1929). I have not been able to locate the grave of an Eliza HOUSE in either county. According to Dallas County AR marriage records, John W. HOUSE, age 20, was married to Martha M. HARRIS, age 20, on 14 Apr 1872, in Dallas Co AR., Book B, page 264. The only HOUSE on which I have much info was Thomas Quintius Cincinattus HOUSE, a Methodist minister and school teacher at Holly Springs, Dallas Co, AR. Before you reject this possibility because it is from Dallas County rather than Ouachita County, let me point out that the village of Holly Springs, though lying in Dallas Co, abuts a road which lies in Ouachita County. In other words that road touches Ouachita County on one side and Dallas County on the other. Mr. (Rev) Thomas HOUSE ( 28 Dec 1828, probably in VA-05 Jul 1897) lived out his life in Holly Springs, Dallas County AR, preaching and teaching school there. He was married to Mary M. BELL (21 Sep 1832-04 Aug 1903). That couple's children include at least: Martha L. Rebecca (13 Apr 1850- ) John Wesley HOUSE (27 Feb 1852-01 Feb 1929) Leander Sharpe HOUSE (Twin) Elizabeth P. HOUSE (Twin) Thomas Alexander HOUSE Mary Susan HOUSE Hannah Francis HOUSE William Dudley HOUSE Linnia Jane HOUSE Virginia Tennessee HOUSE (perhaps places from which the family traveled?) James Edward HOUSE Quintius Cincinatus HOUSE (20 Jan 1869-22 Dec 1943) Clara HOUSE Winfield Johnson HOUSE George F. Pierce HOUSE HOUSE marriages in Dallas County are as follows: Cornelia C. HOUSE, 25, to Wiley P. DUNN, 23, Book B, page 260, by William E. DUNN, MG. Mary Elizabeth HOUSE, 17, to E.P. Gaines ALSTON, 21, on 13 Dec 1870, by Robert B. Alston, MG, Book B, page 237. Martha L. Felix Sims' parents were William & Elizabeth White Sims of Putnam Co GA & Autauga Co AL, and his sister Sarah Sims married a Mr. Broadnax. My ggg-grandfather Daniel Jefferson Hildebrand also sold land in 1835 in Autauga County, Alabama to Thomas H. Broadnax. The Sims and Hildebrands moved from AL to Union Co AR in the mid-1840s and lived near El Dorado near Wesson. The Sims moved to Ellwood / Rising Star in Fannin Co TX (near Bonham) in the 1870s and the Hildebrands by this time lived at Bluff City in Nevada Co AR, which is only a few miles from Camden. I have a Sims book and a Hildebrand book with more info, although I don't see tie-ins as yet to the Kellams you mention or the Broadnax of Camden. Felix & Harriett Sims' only son was John C. Sims (born 1835 AL, died 1889 TX), who married Sarah Jane Bustion in 1857 in AR. Their children don't seem to include a Katherine. It is possible that Felix Sims had brothers that came to AR with them that ended up in Camden, and I see that a Henry V. Sims purchased land in 1860 & 1882 in Union Co AR and a Nathan H. Sims in 1889. I suggest you also research Felix's paternal line (his father was William Sims & grandfather was Nathan Sims).

This church has lots of ties with folks that later came to southwestern Arkansas and earlier with North Carolina. This church was one of the early "New Light" Separate Baptist foundings by a mission group that came out of the Yadkin River region of NC. Since some researchers in your discussion show Bridges and Thompsons as collaterals to their Padgetts, and these surnames are known to be from this religious group, I felt this connection to Padgett's Creek Church as probable. Other surnames associated with this group include Hart, Murphy, Mulkey, Howard, Gist, and many more. Personally, I have direct ancestors from all these lines, including the Bridges and Thompsons. They all also have tight ties to KY & MO. I have lots more research to share if you're interested.
