Surnames: Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XV.2ADI/871 Message Board Post: Does anyone have an index to the cemeteries of Ouachita County? I am trying to find when District Judge Charles W. Smith died and where he is buried. He moved to Camden in 1886 and lived there through 1930. I believe that he and his wife Sue (Sula?) are most likely buried somewhere near Camden where they lived. Charles was born in 1854. In 1930, Charles' single brother Joe lived with him. Joe may be buried in the same cemetery. Thanks for any help. Tim

    3. Hi Ed You said a reunion for Wages? My great grandmother Mary Butler Floyd Wage Bratton was married to Eleazer Wage (maybe Wages) 23 Feb 1896 in Ouachita Co. They had four children: Corene b 16 Nov 1896 d 29 Oct 1897 Vadis b 29 Mar 1898 d 15 Jan 1983 Johnnie b 13 Dec 1900 d 23 Nov 1902 Ione 29 June 1904 d Feb 1973 Eleazer, Mary, Corene, Vadis and Johnnie are all buried in the Turner Cemetery. Ione in Louisiana. Eleazer drew a Confederate pension and Mary a widows pension after he died until she remarried and again after her 3rd husband Bratton died (would you believe again on Wage. They had no children). I have copies of the pension records. Mary Butler had one child by her first husband Samuel R Floyd. Their son Oscar Floyd was my grandfather. Do you know of any other children or family of Eleazer Wage? A family story was that Wage Town near Sayre was named for Eleazers father. Not proven just family legend. Do you know anything about that? Thanks Lois Evans

    3. Ouachita County, AR, appears to have no burials for the HALEs you have named. They do have burials of: HALE, Alfred Clay, 26 Mar 1895 - 12 Dec 1972, Bethesda Cemetery, south of Fairview on Mt Holly Road at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church, on left. HALE, Sue, 22 Sep 1921 - 03 Feb 1981, Bethesda Cemetery. HALE, Earl O. Moss Cemetery, 3 miles north of Bearden on Hwy 79 N. Take left on Ouachita 89 to Ouachita 97, turn right to cemetery. HALE, Edward Learl 1929 - 1976, Corporal, U.S. Army, Korea. Moss Cemetery. HALE, Vera K. MEAD 25 Dec 1907 - 19 Feb 1972, Moss Cemetery. HALE, Joseph P. 14 Jun 1910 - 25 Jun 1985, Buena Vista Cemetery, formerly known as Ten Springs Cemetery. South on 79N to Buena Vista; turn left off State Hwy 79N onto Ouachita 5. One mile to cemetery. HALE, Maudie 1879 - 1949, Greenwood Cemetery, in Camden, north on Adams Street about a mile, on left; large cemetery. Adjacent Dallas County has recorded no HALE burials at all. There is a Sarah Elizabeth CARTER, 18 Aug 1889-14 Jan 1971, in Dallas County, Sparkman Cemetery. You might check adjoining Nevada County cemeteries, (on the west of Behestian Township, which is the western township of Ouachita.) and Calhoun County cemeteries online. Nevada Co was taken largely from Ouachita Co in January 1891. Of course, a number of cemeteries went along as part of that new county. Will be glad to help further if that is possible. I was born in Ouachita County, and my wife, Evelyn SEALE was born in Dallas County and is buried there, in Chapel Hill Cemetery, adjacent to the village of Ouachita. This Ouachita is more than 40 miles from the one in Behestian Township, and is near Sparkman, Dallas County. To help you find Richard's land, the description interprets as Section 33, Township 12 South, Range 18 West. He applied for land in Section 28, but that land was not available so he was offered 160 acres of Section 33 in the same Section, Township and Range as Enoch, a presumed relative was in--Section 33, Township 12 South, Range 18 West. As a matter of fact, all the HALE families were near one another, and Enoch obtained land adjoining that once belonging to Choctaw Indians, and ceded to the United States by the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek in 1836.
