Author: jackwheelington Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.ouachita/694.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi! My name is Jackie Wheelington. Wheelington is my married name and, as a first anniversary gift for my husband (and for a keepsake for our son, Samuel Jett Wheelington), I am doing a genealogy (or attempting to) for the Wheelington family name. This is is what I know about my husband's family: My husband (Jason Nathaniel Wheelington) is the son of Paulla Kathleen Davis (Houston, Texas) and Carol Dillon Wheelington (Hope, Arkansas), who is the son of Readus Wheelington (Patmos, Arkansas). Readus had 3 sons with Geneva (Franklin) Wheelington (Carol Dillon, Haskell Ray, Gary Wayne). Readus and Geneva changed their name to Bear (Readus' mother's maiden name) later in life. Readus is now deceased and Geneva still resides in Hope, AR. As far as I know, Ray, Jason (my husband) and our son, Jett, are the only Wheelingtons left of my husband's paternal family. Readus was a son of George Wheelington and Lucille Ann Bear (it is said that she was pure Blackfoot Indian). I also know that Readus and Lucille had 3 children: Readus (my husband's grandfather), Oneida (married name Dooble?) and the other child's name I do not know. George (Readus' father) had a brother, Colonel, who had 3 sons: Steve, George, and a name my mo! ther-in-law can't recall. I am sure this all sounds very convoluted but if you recognize any of these names; it would be greatly appreciated if you would email me back and a) fill in some blanks that I have or b) add your own part of the story. I only want to pass on some lineage to my son, should he be the only remaining Wheelington on my husband's side. Thank you for your time and God Bless! Jackie K. 1. Re: [AROUACHI] Trip to SW Arkansas
    2. Marjean, I think that it is great that you are willing to make the trip to SW Arkansas to research your family. You may want to begin at the County Library. They usually have a Geneology Room or at the very least a Geneology Section. There is also a Ouachita County Historical Society in Camden Arkansas which may be able to assist you. I also believe that there may be a Geneology Association in Texarkana TX or AR which covers SW Arkansas and parts of Texas. They could tell you at the Texarkana Public Library which is in downtown Texarkana. Their hours are from 9 am to 5 pm or 9 pm depending on the day. They also have preprinted geneology forms for a nominal fee, I think about 10 cents per copy. You could also use the computer at the Library for your research and to check your emails. Just show them your drivers license and another piece of identification, read a booklet about the rules and fill out a brief application form and that's it. I also want to mention that if you are interested in checking the Barton Library in El Dorado, AR, you should call ahead about the hours that they are open. I believe that it is open just during the afternoon. I know that they do have a Geneology Room. Finally, I just want to mention that I do remember a Mary Ligon, a widow, from my church in El Dorado AR. She would be in her 80's or 90's now and last I heard she was living with her daughter in MS. I do remember her saying that she and her husband had a small restaurant in Texarkana AR during the 30's or 40's. I hope that this helps in some small way. You will find that most folks in SW Arkansas will be very helpful and delighted to help you in your search. Linnea ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
