    1. Re: [AROUACHI] marriage records
    2. Ed Sanders
    3. Teri, There won't be any marriages recorded in Camden from 1842, though that IS the year Ouachita County was set up from Union County. Unhappily, the Ouachita courthouse was struck by lightening and burned completely in 1875. Happily, Nevada County had been set up from Ouachita, Hempstead and Columbia in 1871, before the fire, so there MAY BE a few marriages recorded in Prescott though they occurred in Ouachita. I am inclined to think none were saved by that means. Of course, some families formerly in Ouachita were included in Nevada from 1871, and marriages after that date will be recorded in Nevada. Some of the marriages which occurred before the fire may be recorded in Family Bibles, and you are welcome to have a typed query inserted in Researcin' in the hope of smoking out someone who has some family records. A third method of smoking out a marriage year is by checking the censuses. Beginning in 1850, each family member is listed by name and age. It is highly likely that any family in Ouachita as early as 1850 can be assumed to list its children and their ages so that you can accurately interpolate the birth years of the children by inferring they had a child in the first 2 years of marriage. This is not exact, but it is very workable when it happens. You don't risk an error of more than one year by that method. A fourth way to learn birth and death dates is from the cemetery records. Very often dates of birth and death will appear on cemetery monuments. Occasionally, marriage dates will appear also. My wife died in 2006--on MY birthday, and I had our marriage put on the stone. On the reverse side, I listed the names of each of our 3 children and the date of birth of each. Also, we used the married names of our daughters so that quite a little history is on the stone. I may can attach a photo. I will try. If we need to search the cemetery records for your ancestors I have the Ouachita and Dallas county books and will be glad to try to help. I am a 300-mile trip from Camden. Evelyn, my wife, was a nurse and retired several years ago. I was a university professor and when I retired I was given professor emeritus status, so we continued to live in Searcy, about 50 miles north of Little Rock. I was born in Bearden, Ouachita county, and graduated high school there, my wife was from neighboring Dallas county, so we were married in Ouachita county where we both worked in 1949. I can almost hear the gears in your head doing the math--yeah, my next birthday will be number 80! 1. [AROUACHI] Richardson Family Help - Please
    2. Hi, I would appreciate any help from the list. All ideas and suggestions are welcome. This family is African American. Charles Richardson born 1861 in La. He died in 1935. He is buried with his wife Harriett at Greenwood Cemetery. The had 16 known children. One son is Rev. Tilton T. Richardson. Tilton was born 1911 in Mangham, La. He died Sept 6, 1945 in Little Rock. According to the death record Tilton had been there 1 day. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery. I am trying to find a few things. 1st. I can't find Charles Richardson in the 1930 census. I have them in the 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 census. In 1920 they are living in Ouachita Co., Ar. 2nd - I need to find out what happen to Tilton Richardson's wife. And find out if they ever had any children. Rev. Tilton Richardson married Pearl or Pearl Lee Parker (born 1913 Ellisville, MS). They married 1937 in Anaconda Montana. I am assuming his work as a minister took him to Arkansas. Or maybe he moved to Arkansas to be near his parents. Pearl is not the informant on the death record. The informant is Jellie Mae Richardson, Madison, Illinois. Two years later Pearl files an Affidavit to correct the death record. Apparently the information did not add that he was married, her name and age. In the Affidavit (1947) Pearl is listed as Pearl T. Richardson, 3127 So. Michigan. I am assuming that this is in Ouachita Co., Ar.? Oral history says that Tilton and Pearl were divorced. However, because of the Affidavit that does not appear to be true. Should I try to find an obituary for Tilton? Where should I look? Note: There is a Pearl Richardson who died in 2002 in Mississippi Co., Ar. This is not my Pearl Richardson. I called the Funeral Home in Mississippi Co. Ar, the person who I talked to knew Pearl. Said the Pearl who died in 2002 was never married to a minister and she was a "white lady." Thanks for any help. Diane Payne in Seattle, WA ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
