    1. [AROUACHI] Graves of Eliza Ann Browder and Children
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: mbrowder53190 Surnames: Browder Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.ouachita/1498/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for information on the graves of Eliza Ann Browder and her 4 children. She and her husband, Martin Van Buren Browder, left Florida and headed to Texas about 1874. Allegedly, Eliza and 4 children died of swamp fever along the way. I can find no documentation, explaination nor reasoning as to why they were in Arkansas. Family lore says that Martin buried his wife and 4 children in a "common grave" and fenced it off with cypress wood. He then continued on to Texas with his young daughter Belle Matilda. No word as to weather or not he left any other defining information on the grave. Thanks, Vickie [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Linda, You might be interested to know there is a national Gravestone Photo Project. My state of Arkansas is a participant. I have no way to send my few photos by e-mail but could send the hard copies. I have gravestone pics of my paternal grandparents, my father and some siblings in the Macedonia Cemetery, Dalark (Dallas) Arkansas. Also, have pics of my maternal grandparents and two siblings of my mother who are buried at Bethesda Cemetery near Camden (Ouachita) Arkansas. I'll think about it. I did not see Indiana or Kentucky in the list. 3. Greetings Arkansas Researchers, I wouldlike to invite you to check out the Arkansas Gravestone Photo Project and participate in its growth as it will only grow with everyone's involvement. The www.Arkansasgravestones.org i s a wonderful tool to preserve the headstones of your ancestors. With the advent of time and weather and vandalism, our headstones are disappearing at an alarming rate. We need to work on preserving a digital image of our family stones as a fitting tribute to our ancestors. This site is an easy-to-use site that exists to make this preservation possible. Additionally there is no cost to the contributor or to anyone wanting to view the photos, hard to find in this day and age where everything costs something. Plus this is a great way to have a backup for all those photos you presently have. There are no annoying ads flashing, moving or popping. Particularly valuable are those very old headstone photos that you have in grandma's photo album. Scan them into your computer and add them to the site as they may be the only testament to your ancestors life. Share them with the world. This is link for the Arkansasgravestones.org GPP Arkansasgravestones.org has just come on line. We are presently working to get it setup and we would invite you to check it out. Also, I am asking for your help, please add your photos to the site. Every county will have space. I am your Arkansas State coordinator and I am truly excited about being involved. If you need help in adding your pictures i will be glad to help....another great way to save a grave. Ar.. I last found her in the Union Twp., Nevada Co., Ar. in 1900 with her second husband, Edward Frank Miller. All of the Creech kids were listed as Miller kids in that census. That would be Edgar, Lula, Lessie, Almeda and Tommie. There was also a young son named Frank Miller. Sarah died soon after the 1900 census and is buried at the White Church Cemetery in Nevada Co. born 3-1-1866 and died 11-21-1900. I am not positive about her parents. In the 1870 census, Jackson Township of Ouachita Co., Ar. there is a Henry Phillips and wife S. Phillips(probably Sarah). They were both born around 1840 in South Carolina. They had three children at the time, Henry J.(age 5) Sarah(age 3) and Fannie(age 1). All of the kids were born in Ar.. This would be only one year off of your Sarah Elizabeth's Phillip's birth. I can't find that Phillips family after 1870. About Rhoda Creech, some say that sh! e was Rhoda Woodall before she married Elisha Creech. As far as Elizabeth Phillip's children, I know a lot about the family of Edgar Marin Creech, Almeda Creech and Tommie Creech. I know that Lessie married Norman Graham. I know nothing about Lula after 1900. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I was told by my father a living Jackson that my grandfather Charlie was married before he married my grandmother Clara. And that he and his first wife had a son named Thurmon. Charlie and Ada would have married about 1913 and Thurmon would have been born about 1915. I am also searching for information regarding Harmon P. Jackson's first wife, I believe her first name was Mary. They would have been married sometime between 1860 and 1864. Harmon and his first wife had two sons Harmon P. Jackson, Jr. born about 1864 and Charles H. Jackson born February 10, 1865, both born in Arkansas. They are first listed on the 1870 census record page no. 5; in Ward 7 in the parish of Natchitoches of Louisiana, post office (looks like) Cloutierville. line 10 thru 14 as follows: Jackson, H. P. age 45, male, white, Farmer, b: Tenn Mary (A. or H.) age 44, female, white, House keeping, b: Alabama H. I wasn't sure if there was any information in the local newspaper archives, or if anyone knew anything about these incidents. Unfortunately, I have no information the bank robbers or what bank it was that they robbed. All I know is that it occurred in Chidester, AR. Thanks in advance for any help!! 1. [AROUACHI] Captain John Carr, Seminole War, Widow's app for Bounty Land

Author: ldffly1 Surnames: Carr, Dent, Keith, Taylor, Edwards Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.ouachita/1491/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi! I'm in possession of the "Claim of Widow for Bounty Land" of the widow of Capt. John Carr. The application was made from Clark County, AR by Sarah Ann Stewart(d) Carr. The connection with Ouachita is that Capt. Carr's first wife Martha Shackelford died in Ouachita in 1845 or so. Capt. John Carr served in the 2nd Seminole War as part of the Alabama Cavalry about 1840-1842. Capt. John Carr was born about 1806 in Oglethorpe County, GA. He is described as having been 5'11", high fair complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair. He married Sarah Ann Steward in Calhoun County, AR on January 11, 1852. His first wife was Martha Shackelford. He married Martha in Montgomery County, AL about 1828. Martha died in Ouachita County, AR about 1845. John Carr himself died in Clark County, AR on Dec. 8, 1875. The interesting part of this application is that there is a note stating that it was consolidated with #92937. That is the number of the land bounty application for my 4th gr grandfather John Carr of Jackson County, AL and later of Carroll County, AR. So the widow's application came to me as part of the land bounty application of my 4th gr grandfather John Carr. To the best of my knowledge, there is no blood relation between Capt. John Carr and my 4th gr grandfather. If anyone out there is related to Capt. John Carr, I'd be glad to correspond. 1. [AROUACHI] Florence Beard-Dickenson/ Ouachita Co.

Author: KennyAmis70 Surnames: Beard, Dickinson, Shankle Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.ouachita/1490/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have a poem written by Florence Beard Dickinson in 1929 that I would like to see passed on to her descendants. It is 6 pages and very sentimental and would be invaluable to her descendants! It states that she was born 12 Sept. 1876 to Wiliam and Frances Beard in Ouachita Co. Arkansas. She had 3 children but it doesn't mention their names. The 1880 U.S. Census has her living in Carroll Twp. Ouachita Co., That is near the communities of Smead and Ouachita near the Dallas/ Ouachita Co. line. In 1880 she was listed as 3 years old and living with her parents and siblings: Mary 12, Lillie 9, Burrell 6, and Franklin 1 year old and a 50 year old boarder Jef Shankle. She married Albert Burton Dickinson on 27 Apr. 1902 in AR and died in 1929 and Albert Dickinson died in 1966 near Sparkman, Dallas Co. AR.. I would love for her descendants to get this poem titled "Poem Of My Life" so if any one with an Arkansas connection reads this please check out the names mentioned in this post. Thanks, Kenny Amis/ [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
