Bill King ----- Original Message ----- From: <DFunkLR@aol.com> Sent: Saturday, March 30, 2002 9:39 AM Subject: Re: [AROUACHI] Re: GRAPETTE SYRUP CO., CAMDEN, ARKANSAS Yes, my father, Travis (son of John Q. and Ida) ,was the bottler of soft drinks in Dumas, Arkansas. He bottled Pop Kola, Grapette, Barq's flavors. He had the choice of buying a Pepsi, Coca-Cola, or Pop Kola distributorship in 1945. Could only afford Pop Kola. Would have been a rich man if he could have sprung for the others. He made a very comfortable living for us and was a contributor to the economy in Dumas and southeast Arkansas with his employment of many through his Delta Bottling Company. He also was a silent partner, owning half of the bottling company in Hope, AR, with Al and Hazel Page. They lived in Hope, ran that business. They bottled the same thing, with the addition of Crush drinks (Orange Crush, Lemon, etc.) and chocolate flavors. He was forced to sell the bottling business in 1970's because of his poor health. He continued to own the Pittman-Witherington Oil Company, distributors of American Oil, selling out to his young partner in the 1970's. Travis died 12/56/79. He had had several heart attacks, beginning at an early age, suffered a stroke on the operating table while undergoing an endarterotomy in Jefferson County Hospital. Ultimately died of heart attack in Doctor's Hospital, Little Rock. Dottie Witherington Funk Little Rock, AR

    3. Thank you for the information. I did find Joseph T. on the Ancestry website and from that information I connected him to a "POWELL" book I purchased several years back. It was a luck fine. His first wife, mother of my great grandmother on my father's side, died very shortly after they got to Camden, AR. He probably remarried and could have moved in later years, that's way I have never been able to find where he was buried. I'll check the cemetery out. Thank you again.
