Just wanted to let you know that there is a book on the Mckelveys and Hesterlys in the Geneology section of the Public Library in Camden AR. It was written by a cousin, Vera Looney (now deceased), of Camden AR about 30 or 40 years ago. It contains a lot of family information and pictures. I believe that it is in a red binder. My brother, Keith, has wanted to update it for the longest but has not had the opportunity. We both have copies but can't seem to locate them. When we do, we would be more than happy to make copies at a nominal cost for anyone who is interested. Linnea

This comes from research done by Delia Gardner of Arizona back in the 1960s and includes a letter written in 1930 by Kentucky-resident Keziah "Kibby" Hayes Comer, a great-granddaugher of Obediah & Priscilla. Further pursuit of looking for our Howards at cemeteries there may not have ever been followed up. The letter says Obediah's wife Priscilla is thought to have lived to be 102 years old and was living with her daughter Hannah near Tompkinsville KY when she died. There seems to also be a reference that Tompkinsville is either close to Glasgow KY, or that the town's name changed to Glasgow (?). Keziah's letter also mentions the siblings of her grandmother--Hannah Howard Hayes--as Stephen (our line), Jesse, Avery, William, Kit (Christopher) & Joe. These would be Obediah's children. Delia's info also mentions that Obediah's will was dated March 1, 1804 at Barren County KY & proved in court November 1804.He also served in the Revolutionary War (SC)and his military service account is No. 2906.

Could I get a copy of that photo of William Bridges Howard, Sr. too? I didn't know you had one! ((Your Cousin Cathy)). P.S. I also have William's death date as "after 1860". I know you're aware that his father was Stephen Jr., grandfather was Stephen Sr., and great-grandparents were Obadiah & Priscilla Howard. But did you know that Obadiah is written up in history as one of the renowned founders of the 1770's Fairforest Creek Baptist Church in Union County, South Carolina (first Baptist church established in that part of SC). Obadiah died in Barren County, Kentucky, in 1804. Another interesting note is that in our Murphy line, the three sons of Reverend William Murphy--John, William Jr. & Joseph (our line)--were also connected to Obadiah Howard. All three of the Murphy brothers were Separatist Baptist ministers, and Joseph preached at Fairforest in its early days when Elder Obadiah Howard was there! Also, when Obadiah left SC in 1798 to go to Barren County KY (now Monroe County), John Murphy went there with him! It was at this son John's home in KY that the father Rev. William Murphy died in 1799 on his way back to TN from acquiring his land grant in Missouri. I just this week discovered this amazing connection between our Howards and our Murphys, who we never before realized had such early ties!! The world keeps getting smaller & smaller.
William Bridges Howard, Sr. is my ggggrandfather, but the only thing I have on his death, is that he died in Alabama. I don't have the year. My grandmother, Julia Orren, was the daughter of Susan Elvira Frisby, daughter of Julia Ann Howard and Elijah Frisby. William was Julia Ann's father. I am sure you already have this info, because it is out there in dozens of places. However, I will be glad to share anything I have with you. And I would love to have a copy of the picture of William. My e-mail address is mlamber@swbell.net Hope we can help each other. I think that is where my Greer's are in unmarked graves. There is a confederate marker there for Alexnader P. Greer but it has the wrong info on it. It has his brother Sidney A. or Algernon Sidneys info on it. A. P. Greer was a sheriff in Nevada Co. and lived around Lackland Springs. Do you know how to reach any of the last Greer children that lived around Prescott? I went to a Greer reunion in Prescott in 1965 and stayed with Sardis' sister, Minnie Lena Greer Buford. Della, Regarding obtaining the death certificates of your grandfather, Doss Wright and his brother Chick Wright and your grandmother, Lettie Walker. Did you know that there is a Computer CD containing information on all the folks who received Social Security in America. It contains all the names from the very start of Social Security in the thirties up until the year 2000. The reason why this is important is that you can search the name of your ancestors and they will give the year that they died and the County and State where the death benefit was mailed to. Keith has the CD but I am afraid that I am technically challenged and will have to wait until he returns from his vacation. You can also, check with your local Research Librarian and perhaps she can obtain this information for you. I hope this helps. Linnea PS. I will save your email for him.
