Each head of house hold was entitled to so many acres and each child was also entitled to land. Most of the Choctaw Scrip issued to the Choctaw Indians was purchased by white men, usually for pennies on the dollar of what it was worth. It could be used to purchase government land anywhere.

    3. Guess not, Bill. I was thinking of a James W. King, a distant cousin. This is interesting, though. I used to live (as a child) in Elliott (~1948-49) and one of my cousins, Bill Lusby, still lives there. There is a Rogers line which were founding members of the Elliott baptist church who are distantly related, and my grandfather owned property there at one time. We've a number of King relatives - from Robert A. Lancaster who married Nancy King, dau. of Avery - and I'm pretty sure some are buried in the Riddick Cemetery. I think there's a list for that cemetery available on the Ouachita County genweb site. Seems we might have chatted once or twice before, without making a connection... :>) trapper John Lancaster, author of The Electronic Genealogist The New FREE Weekly Genealogy Site Review Email Letter http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jclancaster/teg/index.html Email: mailto:jclanc@swbell.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "lynn.bill.king" <lynn.bill.king@pdq.net> To: <AROUACHI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2002 6:18 AM Subject: [AROUACHI] James M. 3. These are probably my family, Bill, and it's also likely that James M. is buried around the Troy community - perhaps in the Riddick cemetery. I've got mom's King family notebook open in my lap as I write this, and will get back to you a little later. *may* be a connection.
