George's family was in Carroll Co, TN, before coming to Arkansas. His parents were Allen House and Mary Unknown. Prior to that they were in Edgecombe Co, NC, and colonial Virginia - lots of Jameses and Johns. I'm not sure what the W. stands for in George's name, but family researchers have suspected it was Washington. However, I have never seen a document about him that stated that firmly.

House in Quachita County about the same time. TQC had several siblings about whom we know nothing at all except that they existed. I wonder about the possibility of their being brothers. Do you know anything at all about G. W.'s origins? I do have a lot of information about the House family in Virginia. Just out of curiosity, do you know what the W stood for. Our House line used the name Wesley a lot as a middle name. Please feel free to write me directly.

HOUSE, b.c. 1823, noted in Ouachita County in 1850 and 1860. Married Sarah Jane JONES and had four children before he died during the Civil War. He apparently joined a Cherokee regiment that fought a number of skirmishes and several battles in Indian Territory (now OK) and died during a skirmish on Honey Creek in November, 1862. I'd love to know more about his ancestry, his wife's family, and his children. Thanks - jadresser@earthlink.net

Paulman, who married Ralph Croft, was the daughter of Henry and Ann Paulman. "On June 17, 1847, Henry Paulman married Lydia Antoinette Walker." I am researching this for my aunt Matha Lucille (Croft) Oxley, granddaughter of Sophia C. Paulman from Arkansas. Lucille remembers her father, George Washington Croft b. 1888 and the youngest of 8 children - two of which did not survive, telling her that Sophia C. Paulman was full - blooded Cherokee and that Sophia had very dark eyes and hair, that her hair was very long, that she had high cheek bones and that she stood very straight. Lucille would very much like to obtain additional information about Sophia's parents, her tribe and any other information she can, especially information confirming her Indian heritage, if this information is correct. If you have any information about Sophia C. Paulman, PLEASE let me know!!!! Thank you! ~Sally Townsend

On WD's 1920 Census in Los Angeles, CA...It says this....But, he was 88 when they asked the census quesrtions of him, and he may have made a mistake. He had little or no memory left, as he was suffering from some form of senility 4 years later, when he died in a State hospital. So I just wanted to add SC to my query. Vicki

A Morgan must have married a Lightfoot, because Nathan Lightfoot Morgan was born in about 1824 in AL. He is in the Siskiyou Co., CA Great Register in 1867 through 1892. He was a Confederate Civil War Soldier and the brother of my Great Great Grandfather, Wesley Deskin Morgan. Any information on the Lightfoot family or any families connecting Lightfoot to Morgan, would be greatly appreciated.

The 1888 federal lands list includes John R. Best and Lewis J. Best receiving 80 acres in Redland Township (11S) in Ouachita County AR (which lies on the county border with Nevada County and is near the border of Clark County; this community is also often called the Carouse or Terre Rouge Creek area). Isaac Best (b: 1774 PA) was in Garrard County KY & Madison County KY prior to Montgomery County MO. He planned to go to Texas as part of Stephen F. Austin's original colony in about the late 1820s. On his way, he stopped in Hempstead County AR (Rocky Mound & Hope areas) & stayed for almost ten years before going on to Texas, where he died in Austin in 1837. His daughter Polly Best married Captain James Cantley in MO & their daughter Sarah Best married William Cantley in Franklin County MO. There were lots of Bests also connected with the Cantleys of Clark County AR, including Rebecca Best marrying Samuel Cantley. There were Coxes in my family line living in Redland Township at this time that may include the Coxes you show as married to your Effie Best & Oscar Best, although I do not recognize the names W. A. Cox or Melzena Cox of the later 1800s period.
