    3. I have a lot of information on this House Family. My great grandfather was William Dee House, George Washington's brother. I have GW's descendents, siblings and his ancestors back 4 generations. Sarah Jane was the daughter of Lewis Bridges Jones and Elizabeth Meador. GW and Sarah had 4 children, John Allen, Mary Elizabeth, James A., and William. I have descendents for John Allen and Mary Elizabeth but only birth and death dates for James and William. If I can help with any information I'll be happy to. I've given up - if I can't find an email address for a response, they just don't get one. What a waste! Mary Elizabeth House, b. 24 April, 1854, is my House line. She married George A. Sudsberry on 26 May, 1872. They had ten children. George W. House was the eldest of Allen and Mary (Unkn.) House's children, I believe. He was followed by John W., William Dawson; Wilson T., Francis Marion, Jacob W., Manash/Lenora, Mary E., Louann M., James, Martha L. [The Manash/Lenora is a puzzle - census records record them born in the same year, but show one on one census and the other name on the next - confusing.] I can only pass on others research for the Joneses. Sarah Jane appears to be the eldest child of Lewis Bridger/s Jones and Elizabeth Meador. The Meador's are easy to find, but I can't get far with the Joneses. Others have said that Sarah Jane was followed by: Louisiana, William L., Benjamin, Margaret, Martha A., Julia, Nancy R., and infant male. Feel free to contact me at jadresser@earthlink.net

His son William Cox was a County Judge at Camden in the mid 1800s and then lived at Junction City in Union County by the 1880s. Is this possibly the same Cox family that your Aunt Abner descends??

W.'s brother, b. 1840. That would also mesh with the age of 20 that I have for his age in the 1870 Census. Sarah Jane Jones House married James A. Wood after G. W. died. So she must have been living in James Wood's home in 1870, as well as her 13 year old son, J.A. W. House. Apparently Sarah and James had children of their own after their marriage. Were there any other House children in the household? John Allen L. House, b. 1852, married in 1874, and Mary Elizabeth, b. 1854, married in 1872, so I would have expected them to be living with their mother, unless they were working in other households. I know little of youngest son, William, b. 1860, but if he is not in James Wood's household, I would expect he died young before that time. George W. House was in the 1st regt. Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Co. K), aka Watie's Regiment, aka 2nd Cherokee Mounted Rifles, AR. I have found little about this regiment or his death in November, 1862, during a skirmish at Honey Creek (near Watie's headquarters). While it is possible that George's wife, Sarah Jane Jones, was part Cherokee, it seems more likely to me that George was, given the lack of identity of his mother. Sarah's parents were apparently Lewis Bridger Jones and Elizabeth Meador. If you know anything about this unit, I'd be grateful for any clues.

I have the census entries for 1860 for G.W. and for an A.D. House (I can't really tell if this is an A or not!), three residences away. There is also a young man named James T. House, age, 10,born TN, living in G.W.'s household that looks like maybe a younger brother or nephew. In 1870 there is a J.A.W. House living in my great great granduncle's household (James Andrew or Anderson Wood, b. 1837, AL also listed as Andrew or Anderson J.) that I think may be G.W.s son James A. James A. was three in 1860 and the JAW in 1870 is 13. Somewhere I have a marriage record for a James House and one of my Wood cousins from this household. These are all in Missouri Township, Ouachita County. This area becomes Missouri Township, Nevada County in 1871. You can email me direct if you like, but I'll post the census data here, too. If he joined a Cherokee Regiment there should be some records on him in the IT. Do you know which unit? Was it Watie's? Was he Cherokee? There weren't too many non-Cherokee except for the intermarried whites in the regiments. If he has Cherokee connections, we may be in luck. That is my grand passion for research and I have tons of information on them.
