Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XV.2ADI/444 Message Board Post: Goodspeed's 1890 "Memoirs of Southern Arkansas" includes a profile on ANDREW J. JONES (that may have also gone by the nickname of "BUCK" JONES). I'm looking for more info about this Andrew to help answer this question. Per Goodspeed's profile, Andrew J. JONES was a farmer with 120 acres of highly cultivated land in Ouachita County in 1890, and he was born there in 1853. He married Malinda E. NICHOLS of Nevada County AR on Jan 14, 1874 (Malinda's parents were John & Elvira NICHOLS). Andrew & Malinda had 5 children: Urilla L., William, Hettie A., Cordelia and Cleveland JONES. Andrew J. JONES was the son of James JONES (b: SC, d: 1884) and Mary MOSELEY (b: SC, d: 1886). This family had come to Arkansas in 1848 from Alabama and were Baptists. Andrew had 12 brothers and sisters, including: Lucinda C. JONES who married E. H. FRISBY, Hilda A. JONES who married William COX (Ouachita County Judge & Baptist minister), and Susanna C. JONES who married Andrew R. RIDGELL. I am descended through the COX and FRISBY families that married into this JONES group. The BUCK JONES I'm seeking lived near or in Union County's Junction City by 1903, as did the Reverend William Cox mentioned here. Please let me know if you have additional information on "BUCK" JONES or any of these other JONES family members or associated folks. cathy@dustyroads.net

I know nothing about a Thomas Jones family in the Ouachita and Nevada Counties area of Arkansas. Certainly the birth year of your Mary would indicate that perhaps her father was a younger brother of my Lewis Jones, but I can be of no further help about her. Our Lewis Jones had a daughter, Martha A.,but she was born about a decade before your Mary Ann.

House and wanted to get it your direction: looking at Arkansas Civil War military rosters leads me (and other House researchers) to believe that our George was mustered with the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (Crawford's). This unit was mustered in the spring of 1863 and fought at Poison Spring and Marks’ Mills, and in Missouri, surrendering as part of the Trans-Mississippi Department. It merged with Wright's Cavalry, among others. George W. House was in Company D, private, enlisted 12 November, 1863 in Camden, which is very close to where he lived, and died "at home" on 1 December, 1863 - perhaps a victim of disease, the biggest killer of the Civil War. Another member of this company was Henry C. Cross, who may have been a member of the family of the wife of George's brother, William Dawson House. There were also Woodall's in the company (brother Jacob's wife's family?) and a bunch of Joneses, perhaps connected to George's mother, Sarah Jane Jones House. Wright's regiment included George Sudsberry, who married George W. House's daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and Edward Bowden, who may be connected to George's sister, LouAnn, as well as three Wood's, who may be connected to Sarah Jane Jones House's second husband - and a number of Joneses in this unit as well. If you would like any further details, please send me your email address and I will forward them. I'd also love to know what you might have on the ancestry of Sarah Jane Jones. thanks, Jane jadresser@earthlink.net

In 1871, she married Rev. William Robert "Bob" Barham (my gg-grandfather) (b: 1850, d: 1926). W. R. "Bob" owned a mercantile store at one time in Boughton and also in Prescott in Nevada County AR. He was a Missionary Baptist minister and he donated land in Redland Township (4 miles east of Prescott) to build Shady Grove Baptist Church in the 1870s. I grew up nearby to there and my paternal grandmother was a granddaughter of these Barhams. My records say that Mary Ann was buried at Liberty Cemetery at Pisqah AR in 1901 (is Pisqah in Ouachita County & were the Jones' from there?). I'd like to know more about Mary Ann's family since she's my gg-grandmother! I have a great deal of info on the Barhams if you need that info. My grandmother Jewel Barham married George Nelson Cox in 1914 at Redland in Nevada County. It's my understanding that our Coxes also had several marriages to the Jones and House family. I'd like to know more on these Cox connections if you have info in this regard! There were several Beavers in this group as well. George Nelson Cox's father was Levi David Cox and Levi's three brothers were George Wesley Cox, John Marion Cox and William Nelson Cox. These three brothers migrated to Indian Territory in OK in the 1890s, while their brother Levi remained in Nevada County AR. I have more info to share if this connects.
