The Stephens family lived just south of Witcherville on the edge of Scott and Sebastian Co., They came from Henry Co., TN to AR and then most went to eastern Oklahoma and later many to California during the "dust bowl" days. The shortstop baseball player, Vern Stephens, who played with the Boston Red Sox and the old St. Louis Browns was descended from this Stephens family.

The Hollis referred to moved from Grand Saline, Texas area in the early 1900's. There were two Charlie Hollis's in the group. Charlie C (Little Charlie) Hollis was the son of Jack Hollis. Little Charlie's (wife Ida Bailey) children included Willie, Mable, Grace, Truman, and Ozella. Jack and his wife and family moved to Dallas County also. Other children of Jack was Will, Pearl, Clyde, Jewell and others. Charlie H. (Big Charlie) Hollis was the son of Warren Hollis (Warren did not move to Arkansas though he visited quite a bit. Children of Charlie H. and Ida Hollis included, Dee, Roe, Johnnie, Opal, Ruby and at least two others. Warren and Jack along with most of their children were born in Georgia I believe. I will have to check those records. They must have gone to Texas and then come to Arkansas. Tradition has it that the family moved to Arkansas via the train. At least one of the brothers of Charlie H. Hollis settled around Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The others settled in Eaglette and Jacinto in Dallas County. Some later moved to Hopeville and then on to Bearden. Pearl and Clyde ran a grocery store in Bearden for many years. Hope this helps someone. I am not related directly to the Hollis family but grew up in the area where they settled and remember or knew most of them except Jack and Warren.
