Hi, Does anyone own a copy of the book, "Owen County Cousins" by Rosemary Faulk Lovell, published in 1995? More specifically, on the ARNEY family? I'm wanting to know specifically about Johann Heinrich "Henry" Arney, Sr. (1755-1830) I'm very curious, as to why she states that He was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania? Many of you know, I have been trying to trace back to His Parents, and further back. Perhaps, the book has more information to offer. Thank you, for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I truly appreciated. Sincerely, Stan Arney Wichita, KS

I hope you'll pass this along to others you know that may be interested or do genealogy research. Lincoln County now has about 98% of the old deed books and grant books on line. This is very exciting. There's about a dozen more yet to be scanned and loaded but wanted you all to know what's available right now. It should only be another 2-4 weeks before the rest are available. You can access the Lincoln County Register of Deeds website through the county website. <http://www.lincolncounty.org >www.lincolncounty.org ; Under departments, click onto the Register of Deeds and you'll be able to connect to the deeds page from there. According to the book, "The Dale Hollow Lake Graves", by Gary D Norris There were 3 "Arney Cemeteries" located/named by the Corps of Engineers. Page 26 "Original Dale Hollow Lake Cemeteries" "Arney" The Arney Cemetery was on Tract D-501-A in Clay County, Tennessee All of the 100 graves were unknowns and they were moved to St. John Cemetery. "Arney #1" This cemetery is given this name by the Corps of Engineers even though these is another Arney Cemetery. This Arney Cemetery was found in Clay County, Tennessee, on Tract G-507. There were 63 unknowns and 8 knowns for a total of 71 graves at this site. All 71 graves were moved to the St. John Cemetery in the same county. "Arney #2" This small cemetery of 3 total graves was found in Clay County, Tennessee, on Tract G-507. All 3 unknown graves were moved to St. John Cemetery. That's a total of 174 graves, only 8 graves marked with identifiable markers, the rest with simply metal crosses painted white. Names on the 8 known grave markers: L D Beason (11 December 1882 to 30 March 1915) Nancy K Heard Beason (11 January 1857 to 27 August 1924) Zachary T Beason (10 February 1849 to 11 March 1915) Lorena Keisling (9 May 1934 to 9 May 1934) Ade Wilborn (9 April 1860 to 28 February 1898) B C Wilborn (13 October 1856 to 18 January 1931) J C Wilborn (28 August 1891 to 7 September 1935) Loeis Wilborn (11 March 1933 to 9 January 1934) Ironically, not a single Arney grave marker, that was identified.
Hello All, I was hoping, perhaps, that someone may known what (other researchers) found, that helped them to "piece together" who Peter Arney's children were? I mean, he only appears in 3 US Federal Census, from 1820-1840, in Overton County, Tennessee. The 1850 US Federal Census, was the first toidentify individuals, in a household, unfortunately, Peter Arney died in 1845. (and I have found very few of his children in the 1850 Census). Thank you, for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I truly appreciate it. I pray, all is well with you, and yours (have a safe holiday weekend). Sincerely, Stan Arney Wichita, KS ________________________________ .

I'm curious to know, if you have any idea, how researchers "pieced together", the family of Peter Arney? I know, Peter Arney was in the "Cumberland area" between Kentucky and Tennessee, around 1799. Though he "supposedly" had children still being born in Virgina, while he was in Tennessee. My "best genealogical guess" is, his Wife, Margaret (maiden name/surname, unknown), remained in Virginia, while he cleared land and built them a home. Perhaps returning to Virginia, during the Winter months. Since the 1865 Overton County Courthouse fire, would have destroyed many records (birth/marriage/death, land deals, etc). How did those researchers (in the 1950's) piece together who Peter Arney's children were? Was the "family tree" shared with them verbally? Was it possibly written down somewhere? We know, that our Arney Ancestors, were buried on Arney land (probably areas designated for burials), however the majority of graves were marked with simply metal crosses painted white. We know, that Peter Arney left no "official Will", which may of noted his Wife and children. We know, he left his land and property, to only 3 children, Henry, Hiram, & Matthew, which gives us, at least the names of 3 of his children. So, how did early researchers "piece together" the children of Peter Arney? After all, Peter Arney, was born in Tryon County, North Carolina (which later became Lincoln County, NC) In October 1787, Lincoln County, North Carolina, Court of Pleas & Quarters, bound Peter Arney, age 15, orphaned son of Jacob Arney, deceased, to John Fullenwider/Fulenwider, to learn the trade of a Miller, until the age of 21 (1793). The only marriage of a Peter Arney, in Wythe County, Virginia was in 1827, Peter Arney married Catherine Fox. This Peter Arney, was the son of Sebastian Arney, not our Peter Arney. I guess what I'm asking you is, when you researched this family, did you start from "scratch" or did you use a family tree or information, passed on to you? Thank you, for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I truly appreciate it. Sincerely, Stan Arney Wichita, KS [email protected] [email protected]
This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: arney9thgeneration Surnames: ARNEY Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.arney/345/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have always been perplexed, as to why the early ARNEY researchers, assumed Peter Arney left Lincoln County, North Carolina, and went to the area of Wythe County, Virginia, where he supposedly married Margaret (maiden name/surname unknown), began having children, then moved on to the "Cumberland area" between Kentucky & Tennessee, around 1799. This would mean, that while he was in the "Cumberland area" (between Kentucky & Tennessee), his wife, Margaret, must have stayed in Virginia, while he cleared off the land, and built their home. This would explain why some of his children were being born in Virginia, while he was in Tennessee. Now, there were ARNEY families, in both Lincoln County, North Carolina and Wythe County, Virginia, there has not be an actual "tie-in" with these families, though some believe the Sebastian Arney, that lived in Wythe County, VA, may have been a child of Christian "Christy" Arney, Sr.. Sebastian Arney, did have a son named Peter Arney (born in 1801), this Peter Arney was probably the Peter Arney, that married Catherine Fox, in 1827. [The only marriage of a Peter Arney, in Wythe County, VA, I have ever found.] In October 1787, The Lincoln County, North Carolina Court of Pleas & Quarters, bound Peter Arney, 15, orphaned son of Jacob Arney, deceased, to John Fullenwider/Fulenwider, to learn the trade of a Miller, until age 21. [Now, whether or not, Peter Arney, stayed with John Fullenwider/Fulenwider, until 1793, we don't know] I have recently heard from a woman, who "claims" that Peter Arney wrote a "journal", that had information that said he ran away, to the area of Wythe County, VA, to stay with family there, rather stay with John Fullenwider/Fulenwider. Unfortunately, she claims, some family member stole the journal, and refuses now to admit, that it ever existed. I truly wish I knew, how researchers tied these children to Peter Arney, in the first place? After all, they were doing research in the 1950's, way before the Internet, the fire in 1865 of the Overton County Courthouse, destroyed lots of records, marriage, birth, death, etc., not to mention, land deals, etc. Also, the creation of Dale Hollow Lake, in 1942, cost Arney researchers dearly. Most Arney Ancestors were buried on Arney land, unfortunately most with simple metal crosses painted white. The Corps of Engineers, were tasked with moving graves, to high ground, they dug and moved graves, before the land was flooded. So, what records did those early researchers (in the 1950's) use to piece together Peter Arney and his Ancestors ? ? ? How did they know, who Peter Arney's children were? Was it a family tree, (verbally) passed down? Was it written down, somewhere? After all, Peter Arney, left no "official Will", instead had drawn up documents, giving three of his sons, Henry, Hiram, and Matthew, his lands and property. They didn't mention his Wife, Margaret, so "supposedly" she may have passed away before he did. Do you have any ideas, on how to trace Peter Arney & Margaret's children? Thank you, for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I truly appreciate it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. "Owen County Cousins, [1578-1978]: A Genealogical Study Concerning the Families of Fulk, Hauser, Fiscur, Spainhower, Wright, Phipps, Elsberry, Abrell, Arney and Relatives." By Rosemary Faulk Lovell, 1977 Does anyone have this book? If so, is it possible to look and see if it has anything on Jacob Arney (????-1782), who died in 1782, in Lincoln County, North Carolina. He was the father of Johann Heinrich "Henry" Arney, Sr. (1755-1830), who died in Jefferson Twp, Owen County, Indiana. Thank you, for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I truly appreciate it.
Jacob Arney (????-1782) We do not know who his Parents and Siblings were, and where were each of them born. So let us take a look, at the families "surrounding" him. Jacob ARNEY married his 1st Wife, Anna Ursula KRON Anna Ursula KRON (1722-1761), born in Essenheim, Germany Arrived in the United States, in 1741, aboard the Ship "St. Mark" w/ her family Jacob & Anna Ursula Arney's 1st Son Christian "Christy" Arney, Sr. (1750-1834) Married Anna Catharina KIENER (1754-1833) Her Father was Abraham KNUR (1717-1795) Arrived in the United States, from Germany, in 1741, aboard the Ship "Lydia" Jacob & Anna Ursula Arney's 2nd Son Adam "Lawrence" Arney (1751-1802) Married Anna Catherine LUTZ (1762-1862) Her Father was Johann Jerg/George LUTZ, Jr (1739-1777) Arrived in the United States, from Germany, in 1749, aboard the Ship "Lydia" Jacob & Anna Ursula Arney's 3rd Son Johann Heinrich "Henry" Arney, Sr. (1755-1830) Married Magdalena FULK (1755-1849) Her Father was Andreas Volck (1722-1790) Her Grandfather was Andreas VOLCK (1678-1747) Arrived in the United States, from Germany, in 1708, record of ship lost Jacob & Anna Ursula Arney's 1st Daughter Anna Elisabeth Arney (1761-1849) Married Johannes "Adam" Setzer/Setser, Sr. (1758-1843) His Father was Jacob SETZER (1730-1766) Arrived in the United States, from Germany, in 1753, aboard the Ship "Brothers" Looking at this chronologically 1708 Andreas VOLCK 1741 Anna Ursula KRON 1741 Abraham KNUR 1749 Johann Jerg/George LUTZ, Sr. 1753 Jacob SETZER So, odds are very good, that our Jacob ARNEY (or his Parents, etc.), also came from Germany. They might also have arrived between 1708-1749, maybe even earlier. What do you think? Thank you, for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I appreciate it.
