Hi all, I have hit the proverbial brick wall with this one. Mr. __?__ RIGGS was born at an unknown date, supposedly in Indiana, and died about 1859 in Jefferson Twp., Carroll County, Arkansas, now Boone County. He married MAHALA __?__ before 1841 in Indiana or Missouri. Mahala was born about 1825-1826 in Indiana; d: 1/19/1877 Newton County, Arkansas. Her parents are unknown. Mahala and Mr. Riggs had to have moved to Missouri, perhaps Taney County, from Indiana by 1841 when their first son was born. They moved from Missouri to Carroll County by about 1854 when sixth child was born. Mr. Riggs died before the 1860 census was taken in Carroll County, where we first found her. We found Mahala in 1870 in the Newton County Census where she is listed as a widow with the following children. i. JAMES A. RIGGS, born 1841 in Missouri; died 3/13/1866 in Wilcoxon, Newton County, Arkansas, died from wound inflicted during Civil War. He married NANCY A. HARP 8/24/1862 in Newton County, Arkansas. ii. BENJAMIN F. RIGGS, born Abt 1843 in Missouri, possibly Tany County; died 9/15/1864 in Newton County, Arkansas, killed in action in Civil War. iii. ROBERT RIGGS, born 1845-1847 in Missouri, possibly Stone County; died Unknown. He survived serving in the Civil War. iv. JANE RIGGS, born 1850 in Missouri; died Unknown in Newton County, Arkansas ?. She married JOHN SKAGGS 9/11/1868 in Newton County, Arkansas. v. THOMAS BENTON RIGGS, born 3/17/1852 in Missouri; died 3/19/1927 in Newton County, Arkansas. He married GRACIE JANE ARMSTRONG 3/08/1875 in Newton County, Arkansas. vi. WILLIAM RIGGS, born Abt 1854 in Arkansas, possibly Carroll County; died in Newton County, Arkansas ?. He married MALINDA McGOWEN 2/15/1877 in Newton, Newton County, Arkansas. vii. GEORGE RIGGS born 1855-1856 in Arkansas, possibly Carroll County. Nothing else is known about him. viii. NANCY ANN RIGGS, born 2/07/1860 in Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson Township, Carroll County, AR; died 3/20/1943 in Newton County, Arkansas. She married ALLEN T. TENNISON 12/24/1877 in Newton County,Arkansas. Mr. and Mahala Riggs are my great-great grandparents, mother of my great grandmother, # 8 above, Nancy Ann Riggs Tennison. We have been searching for clues as to his first name and her last name and any other information we can find. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Charlene Holland char@presys.com
