MARBLE FALLS(CITY) On Highway 7 between Jasper and Harrison(Boone Co.) Section 20, T17, Range 20West It received its name from the historical block of marble quarried here and now a memorial marker in the Washington Mounument on the 30 foot level. Quarried in 1836 by Peter Bellah; Elijah, Samuel and William Harp. Taken by log wagon with ten yoke of oxen across the Boston Mountains to the Arkansas River near Clarksville and shipped by boat to Washington, D.C. The falls that was located there once furnished water power for a flour mill, cotton gin and saw mill. It became famous for its health resort with many mineral springs.
