    3. Hi Evelyn: I am related to these folks.... My Grandmother was married to Walter Lackey's brother William Lackey. She was his last wife. I heard my Mother and Aunts talk about all these places I have listed. They used to "take a trip to Arkansas" when they would get together. I sure enjoyed their memory trips and miss them so much.... It's been so great getting to met cousins that I never knew I had until I started to dabble in genealogy <SMILE> Love and Prayers Billieirene in San Jose, California AHello, > If anyone has a town or settlement to add to this > list, please let me know. > Evelyn Flood > RKinfolks@aol.com > PLACE NAMES OF NEWTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS > LOCATION AND SOME EARLY FAMILIES > > BEECHWOODS > Named for the many beech trees > Section 36, Twp.16North,Range 23West > Clark, Keeton, Villines > > BEN HUR > Southeast corner > Section 35, Twp. 13N, Range 19West > Received its name from the Bible. > Standridge, Gregory > > BOXLEY > First known as "Whiteley". > Section 10, Twp.15North, Range 23West > Named for a store owner by name of Boxley > Location of the historical saltpeter mines > Whiteley, Casey,Villines, Duty > > DIAMOND CAVE > On Henson Creek three miles from Jasper in > Section 5, Twp.15North, Range 21 West. > Samuel and Andrew Hudson discovered the cave > while bear hunting. > ERBIE > NW corner, Section 33, T17North, Range 21 West > Bryant,Lawson,Villines,Hickman,Farmer > > GEORGE > NW part in Section 3, T16,Range 23West > Newberry, McCullough,Fowler, Allred > > HASTY > NorthEast part of county > Section 25, Twp.16 North, Range 20West > Agee,Bass,Baughman, Bowling ,Fiveash,Garner, > Gibson,Hill,Hoppis,Morrison,Waters > > > JASPER > Northcentral location > Section 27, T16, Range 21 West > County Seat of Newton County,Arkansas > Boomer,Brasel,Carter,Collins,Davis,Harp,Harrison, > Henderson,Jones,Moore, Moss,Phillips,Skaggs, > Sloan,Stacey,Taylor,Waters,Young > > LOWGAP > 10 miles west of Jasper > Roughly Section 34, Twp. 16 North, Range 22 West > The gap is hemmed in by two high mountains > drained by Henson and Steele Creek. > Kilgores,Wishons,Steeles,Lackeys, Eoffs, Villines > > MARBLE FALLS(CITY) > On Highway 7 between Jasper and Harrison(Boone Co.) > Section 20, T17, Range 20West > It received its name from the historical block of marble > quarried here and now a memorial marker in the > Washington Mounument on the 30 foot level. > Quarried in 1836 by Peter Bellah; Elijah, Samuel and > William Harp.
