I didn't know this was his second marriage. He was only 22 in 880 - what happened to his first wife? Who are you descended from? I am in contact with the daughter-in-law of William G. Between her and the internet, we have traced William back to his grandfather -- Jeremiah Smith of Leslie Co. KY. There is an added twist here. One of Rachel's daughters, Jannie Noe, (my husband's grandmother) married a man named Charles Woods. His mother's maiden name was Malinda Smith - also a descendant of Jeremiah Smith. Jannie and Charles were second cousins - once removed. :^) Oops. My husband and his father and not only father and son - they are fourth cousins.
