Thomas, I don't know whether Jeremiah ever went to Newton Co. or not. I sort-of doubt it. I made a mistake in the Co. they were from -- it was Perry Co. KY, not Leslie Co. Jeremiah Smith married Elizabeth Jones in Clay Co. KY 9-11-1813 The 1850 census shows them in Perry Co. These three counties are next to each other and I think parts of some become others. :^) The children of Jeremiah and Elizabeth were Lucinda , Margaret (Peggy), Dorcas, Sarah (Sally), Mary Jane, Sylvania, Huston, Preston, Sylvester, (my husband's great-great-grandfather) and Lewis. I know that William Smith of Newton Co. was the son of Preston. He supposedly walked from KY to AR after his first wife died in childbirth. I have been told that there was already family there, but I don't know who that was. I hope this helps a little. Let me know if I can do anything else for you. Judy Woods
