Section 1, Township 14 North Range 21W in Newton County, AR. So is Nathaniel Smith 24 Dec 1861 - 27 Jul 1891 son of Alfred and Rebecca Flood Smith. According to an article in the second volume of Newton County history published in 1999, he was raised by Janie Pierce and husband, James Pleasant Smith after his mother died. Later, Mart and Rhoda Smith, James Pleasant's parents, took him in. He grew up in the Big Creek - Vendor area. There is also an article written by John Calvin "J.C.". Smith, that said he was the tenth child of Nathaniel "Nathan" Jr. and Canzada Elizabeth "Betty" Eddings Smith.
