I only tried a few, so if you are able to bring up something different, would you let me know please?

However I am not sure exactly how far back they have listings. It did not pick up my mother who died in 1962 but did have my step mom who died 3 months ago and my dad who died in 1982. Hope it helps in your research.                                                 http://arrangeonline.com/obituary/search.asp Good luck in your search Kathy ====

    3. Charlene, my great-grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Armstrong Edwards who was married to my great-grandfather Jack Monroe Edwards, who died in 1906. I've been told that she was married to Absalom Carroll Phillips, also, though my Grandmother never mentioned it to me. I'd love to hear what connection we have & share our information. 2. Charlene, Rebecca Vick married John L Edwards on 26 April 1868 in Pope Co.AR. They are on the 1880 Pope Co.AR. census. Rebecca Vick was daughter of Josiah Vick ,born 1813 in Wilson Co.Tenn; and mother was Mary Jackson. This Edwards line was no relation to the Charles Edwards and Nerva Jane Cheatham of Newton County,AR that I am aware of. After J L Edwards died (no marker in Sexton Cemetery) Rebecca Vick Edwards married John Liles. 2. Charlene, Mary Armstrong was the daughter of Frank Marion"Marcus"Armstrong and Julia Elizabeth Holt Seabolt Armstrong (daughter of Elizabeth Campbell Holt Lawson Carlton and Asa Nathan Holt). Julia had married William R Seabolt Jr. first and they were divorced. Mary married J. M . Edwards on 13Nov1889 in Newton Co.AR. She had several Edwards children. I do not think she is any relation to the Edwards and Cheatham line. She then married Absalom Phillips on 14Oct1916 in Newton Co.AR. Evelyn RKinfolks@aol.com

    2. Charlene, J B "Beet"Edwards lives in the Bay Area of California at ElCerrito,CA. He has not been feeling good lately. The way I understand it, he was son of Charles Edwards , son of John L Edwards and Revecca Vick.Wife was Nerva Jane Cheatham. Oba Criner May who writes the "California" column for the Newton County Times Newspaper is a close friend of his. She is in her 90's. You might mail a letter to the Times. Do not have her address available. She writes about him all the time. Also, I have information on Mary who married Absalom Phillips in later life. Evelyn RKinfolks@aol.com

    1. [ARNEWTON] Henderson families in Newton County
    2. Eddie Davis
    3. I'm looking for anyone researching Henderson families in Newton County, AR from 1850 and before. I have a Mary Francis Henderson who was either born in Arkansas or Missouri, said to have been 1/4th Cherokee Indian. She was born on January 5, 1843, her parents are unknown. In 1857 in Barry County, MO., she married George W. Vaughan and they later lived in Madison County, AR for the rest of their lives. I've been researching Northwest Arkansas Henderson families, to see if Mary might belong to one of them. If anyone is researching a Henderson line in Newton County before 1850, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Eddie Davis ecdavis@atlascomm.net

Since we all look for homepages for our surnames and this one could get a lot of genealogy researchers, I thought this should be sent out for the protection of our list members. 3. I found this cemetry listing and have a letter written by another researcher who has been there. I have really just started on this family line, and after getting the death record of Lela Belle(Cecil)Williams have confirmed that this must be the family. Oh my----sounds like the John Cecil mentioned had a different history than I have--but, would love to find out anything. Hoping to make a trip to Newton soon, I'm in So. Ar., so it's not far. Love that area anyway, and now have a good reason to visit there. Katy

    1. Re: [ARNEWTON] Giles/Jiles Smith
    2. Linda, Do believe you have helped find an ancestor family for Carri Vance. Giles Smith might be related to W B Smith or Beal Smith? Do you have a Beal or W B Smith in your family? Know that Beal Smith lived in Johnson County,Arkansas. Giles may have had a first name and used Giles as his givenname because of so many Johns,James and Williams in the family. Checked my Arkansas Union Soldiers and Confederate Soldiers Indexes and found the following information in the Arkansas Confederate Soldiers Pension Index. Giles Smith Co. A, Sixth Arkansas Infantry Applied 1901 in Johnson Co.Arkansas for his Confederate Civil War Pension. So know he was alive in 1901 in Johnson Co.AR. You might want to check the Johnson Co.AR. web site or the 1900 Johnson County,Arkansas census. Also check out these sites: f you want to order the forms for the Arkansas or other states Union Soldiers Pension and Military records go to this site: <A HREF="http://www.nara.gov/nara/mail.html">National Archives and Records Administration:...</A> http://www.nara.gov/nara/mail.html --------- Write or E-mal Arkansas History Commission for Giles Smith's Confederate Civil War Pension Record. Do not have that site available. Edward R Gerdes Civil War Page is also where you can submit questions about the CSA soldiers on the 1911 CSA Index and they do look-ups there. http://idt.net/~jfultz19/1911intv.htm -------- this is the National Park Service site <A HREF="http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/">Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System </A> http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ ---------- <A HREF="http://www.couchgenweb.com/civilwar/">The Original Arkansas Genealogy Project,Civil...</A> http://www.couchgenweb.com/civilwar/ this site might link to the Edward R Gerdes Civil War Site believe AOL users were having trouble connecting to these sites. 2. There has been a virus going around and some on the lists are being affected. A virus will NOT go thru RootsWeb. RootsWeb does not allow attachments to go thru the lists. 2. New to the list and new to Arkansas research. Thank you all for reading my post. Smiths are notoriously hard and this one appears to be harder than most. Of the nine identified children of John and Elizabeth Auberry Smith, who married in Surry County, North Carolina 1819, this one has given me the most grief. Does anyone have any information at all - no matter how insignificant it may seem - on Giles Smith, born ca 1839 in Surry County, NC? He is said to have been wounded during the Civil War and to have died in Newton County, Arkansas. I have nothing at all concerning wife or children, when he died, or where he is buried. Siblings were Hawkins, Miller, Anderson, John W., Hezekiah, Elijah, Bennett and Micha Ann (Isaac Fleming). Thanks in advance, Linda Smith Murray Marietta, Georgia
