Surnames: Marshall Mounts Mounce Dunn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xV.2ADE/568 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on Benjamin Marshall who according to LDS was born about 1783 in CLay Co KY. He was married to a Sarah "Sally" Unknown (b. abt. 1792) either in KY or IL. Benjamin apparantly died before 1830 because Sarah is listed as the head of household in Sangamon Co IL in 1830. I know of one son they had - Shadrick Turner Marshall (b. abt. 1816 in KY). In 1832 Sarah remarried to a Absalom Mounts in Sangamon County IL. In 1837 & 1839, Absalom is listed in the tax records for Madison County AR. In 1840, they are on the census records for Madison Co AR. In 1850, they are listed on the Franklin Co AR census. Shadrick is listed in his own household with wife Margaret Dunn. They live next door to theMounts. In 1860 & 1870 they are in Newton Co AR. Any help on this family would be appreciated. I would like to prove that Benjamin Marshall is indeed the father of Shadrick - as the LDS says. I would like to also find out Sarah's maiden name and more about both of their families. Thanks so much!
Since we have many people new to the lists and computers. I want to remind everyone tomorrow is a full moon. This is one of the occasions thru out the year that we have problems with virus attachments being sent. I try to alert the lists when I know someone had been infected on the list...otherwise you are to contact me if you suspect a problem. There are many hoax emails that will encourage you to delete files saying you have a virus. DO NOT delete anything until you have gone to McAfee.com or the Norton website to see if there is an alert and the remedy for it. Or if you have another anti virus program go tho their website for updates. Even if it is an attachment from a close friend or relative...DO NOT open the attachment unless they specifically say they have sent you an attachment and what it contains or you email them to find out if they have sent you one. I want to keep things as smooth sailing as possible for each of you...so below is an alert you might want to read to gain or refresh your knowledge. Good luck in your search! Kathy Stokes Hudson Be alert for the Hybris computer virus, also known as the Full Moon Virus or Worm, W32/Hybris.gen@MM, W95.Hybris.gen, and other variations of the Hybris name. The virus replicates itself by watching for e-mail addresses in incoming and outgoing e-mails and then sending itself, in the form of a mail attachment, to those addresses. This virus infects Windows systems only, including Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, and 2000. Your computer becomes infected when you open the attachment. If your computer is infected, anyone with whom you exchange e-mails may receive unexpected e-mails with the virus attachment, from your screen name. The e-mails may have the subject line, "Snowhite and the Seven Dwarfs - The Real Story," and an attachment with a name of "sexy virgin.scr" or "joke.exe" or "midgets.scr" or "dwarf4you.exe." Some variations of this e-mail and virus may have different subject lines and/or attachment names. If you receive an email with this heading, DO NOT download the attachment. What does the Hybris virus do? The Hybris virus downloads a variety of plug-ins from the Internet, and each plug-in could affect your computer differently. The most common plug-in displays a spiral graphic on your computer and prevents you from using Windows. The virus follows an internal clock, and downloads plug-ins on days when the moon is full. The virus usually infects the Wsock32.dll file in Windows, and may corrupt and damage this file during each full moon. If your Wsock32.dll file becomes damaged, you may be unable to reach the Web, and you may experience Windows errors like General Protection Faults in Modules "<Unknown>," "Wsock32.dll," and "Kernel32.dll." While most of the damage may happen on or around the full moon, the virus may create problems any time. The Hybris virus is also known by the names: W32/Hybris.gen@MM, W95.Hybris.gen, and other variations of the Hybris name. This virus infects Windows systems only, including Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, and 2000. What can I do? An infected computer may lock up and have other operating problems. If you suspect you are infected with the Hybris virus, update your anti-virus software and scan your hard drive, following the software manufacturer's instructions. Recently updated anti-virus software should detect and remove the virus.

The Twelve Steps for Recovering Genealogists 1. I admit that I am powerless over my gedcom and that my life has become unmanageable. 2. I believe that there is a greater power other than genealogy and that it will restore sanity to my life. 3. I have made a decision to turn my life over to non genealogists and hope that they will understand me. 4. I have admitted to myself and other genealogists that I am addicted to my obituary files. 5. I vow to no longer discuss "dead people" with my few remaining friends in hopes that they will remain my friends. 6. I promise to take photographs of things other than tombstones. 7. My only source of reading material will no longer be census, wills, death certificates and obituaries. 8. I will not spend family vacations in out-of-state libraries and courthouses. 9. Family picnics will no longer be held in cemeteries. 10. My family will no longer be referred to as "the live ones." 11. My time spent on the Internet will be limited to sites other than Rootsweb.com, Ancestry.com and MyGenealogy.com. 12. I will carry these messages to other genealogists and practice these principles every day. author unknown ======= Sent to me over the Internet by a friend. NEWTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS HISTORY AND INFORMATION A Virginian who migrated to Arkansas Territory in 1820, and began his career "riding the one-horse mail" out of Arkansas Post, was honored in the naming of Newton County when that county was created in December of 1842. He was Thomas W. Newton, born in 1803 (or 1804), and who was buried in Little Rock after his death in 1853. Newton's service as a mail carrier through the wilderness, along the north side of the Arkansas River to Cadron, was by no means the principal reason for the honor later paid him. He formed a fruitful friendship early with Robert Crittenden, one of the territory's most influential men, and studied law with Crittenden and lived in his home. Through the years Newton was, at one time or another, clerk of the legislature, a member of the house of representatives and later of the state senate, postmaster at Little Rock, private secretary to Governor Yell, U.S. marshall, vice president of the Temperance League, and a member for a month of the U.S. Congress, filling out Yell's term. He held other public positions as well. Newton County was formed from a part of Carroll County. John Bellah's house was designated temporary county seat, but Jasper soon thereafter was chosen for the permanent seat. Bellah's place was described as being on Hutson's Fork of the Buffalo. Jasper is on the Little Buffalo River. The origin of the name of Jasper for the town is not certain. Walter Lackey, a native and author of a history of the county, recorded that a postoffice was established in 1843 and given the name of Jasper. This was to conform to the name of a village that already existed. Lackey surmised that the name originated from a block of marble quarried in the county and shipped to Washington, D.C., in 1836, for the Washington monument. Lackey also speculated that two men who helped with the quarrying, John Ross and Samuel Kelly, were mindful of stones mentioned in the Bible. Of possible significance is the fact that Jasper, Minn., apparently was named for a reddish rock mined in the vicinity, Several American towns and counties are named Jasper in honor of William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero. Another explanation of interest concerning the name appeared in the Newton County Times in recent years, in a letter written by a resident of Wisconsin who vacationed in the Ozarks. By this account, an early settler, Frank Villines, and other white new-comers were treated kindly in the 1830's by Indians thereabouts. In turn, Villines and other pioneers gave food and other necessities to migrating Cherokees who came through on the Trail of Tears, enroute to Oklahoma. In gratitude, Chief John Ross of the Cherokees gave Villines a great ring, set with a hard stone, and told Villines that a town would grow there and should be named Jasper. For some years, Cherokees and Jasper people alternated in keeping the ring and the Indians returned for visits. As most of you know AR did not require vital statistics to be taken until 1914. But there are some counties that did require it in scattered years prior to 1914. In 1942 when it was mandatory to have birth records for social security and military service more than 300,000 births was registered. AGS (AR Genealogical Society) was permitted several years ago to begin indexing "prior" births. This year AGS made available a cd anda published book with this information. It will contain an index to those born between 1849 and 1902 (AR has a 100 year privacy act). The published book has the same information but with the cd you can cross reference names...rather than just by the child's name (for instance if you want a list of all the children by a particular mother). If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the cd or book available thru AGS (AR Genealogical Society) Contact Marge Hubbard if you have any questions or wish to order either...you can email her at: MHubbardAR@aol.com The CD is $30.00 postpaid. The hardbound book is $60.00 postpaid. If you find the person(s) you are looking for you can then order the document from: AR Department of Health Division of Vital Records 4815 West Markham Slot 44 Little Rock AR 72205-3867 (501) 661.2726 or go to the website: www.healthyarkansas.com to down load an application. Or you can order the information from the website: www.vitalchek.com To order this from the state of AR be sure to put on the top of the form "PRIOR BIRTH RECORDS, BINDER I, 1942 This last website does have the other state listings. A few months ago, after being associated for some time with other organizations who were so-called "Free-Use", I decided that for folks to have access to TRUE free-use genealogy information, I would purchase my own domain and webspace, a meeting place for all to be able to post and share......no strings attached. And, I've had MANY kind people share their information for others to aid in their research. Now, for some reason, I've started receiving UGLY messages like the following. Could someone please shed some light on this for me?? I am REALLY confused! First, she wrote me and wanted me to post some of her information, and information from the Newton County Historical society, which I said I would do, as long as it was not copyrighted.......never heard anymore from her, until now! Does anyone have any idea WHY she is so hateful towards Judy Tate?? Has Judy done something that I am not aware of? I know this is not the exact forum to be discussing this, but if Newton County information is to be out there for others to find, I would think this would be a concern for everyone! Any ideas?
