    1. [ARNEWTON] J. Solomon Greenhaw
    2. J. SOL GREENHAW This is what Cleo Greenhaw, a descendant of Sol Greenhaw recently put on Newton County Rootsweb Message Board: She said that Sol was born in 1876. He married Onie Lemon. Onie came from Indiana and later moved to Texas. Sol and Onie had a son Samivitus “Sam” Greenhaw and they moved to Blackburn, Oklahoma where her father was born. They later moved to Colorado and lived in a dug-out. Sol Greenhaw went to work on a pipeline and was killed in a cave-in about 1912. The rest of the family moved to Arkansas City, Kansas. ============== Had tried to find Sol Greenhaw in the 1910 and 1920 census records but was unable to find him. He is possibly listed under John or James Greenhaw. What what his full name? Found his marriage in the Newton County, Arkansas Marriage Book BOOK G, Part 2 that I just published. Always try to add family notes to each married couple and this is what my book shows: G-276 J Sol GREENHAW 21 ONIE LEMONS 18 Mt. Judea Cave Creek 11 June 1903 J I Brisco, Surety J W Tennison NOTES: This is Sol Greenhaw, son of Ephriam Kingston Greenhaw and Martha Hefley. Ephriam Kingston Greenhaw” Uncle Pace “ was son of Ephriam B Greenhaw (10 Jan 1818-1March1905) and Angeline Foster ( ca 1818-28Dec1845 Lawrence Co. TN). Ephriam B Greenhaw and Angeline Foster were married 12 Sept 1837 in Lawrence Co. TN. Ephriam B Greenhaw was son of Greenberry Greenhaw and Sally Bridges. Greenberry Greenhaw married Sally Bridges on 13 June 1813 in Sumner Co. TN. (I have researched back further on the Greenhaws). Ephriam B Greenhaw married (2) Rebecca Ethridge (11 Dec 1821-17 Feb 1898). They were married on 12 March 1846 in Lawrence Co. TN. Rebecca Ethridge was the mother of George W Greenhaw (5 Oct 1839-26 Oct 1907). George W Greenhaw married Margaret Lavina Cook. Their daughter Mary Frances Greenhaw married Joseph C Hamilton. Joe and Mary Frances Greenhaw Hamilton had Lulu Hamilton. Lulu Hamilton married Grover Cleveland “Cleve” Smith. Cleve and Lulu Smith had a daughter Walcie Gertrude Smith. Walcie Smith married Lee Chester Flood in 1925 in Johnson County, Arkansas. Lee and Walcie had Kenneth Flood (21 Dec 1929- 14 Nov 1980). Kenneth was my husband. Our son Lee Edmond Flood is who I am doing all this research for. My beloved father-in-law Lee Flood told me that the Floods were related to nearly everyone in Newton County. How true this turned out to be. In doing this research, have gathered up many, many family group sheets and family records on everyone remotely related to the Flood\Flud families. Evelyn

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xV.2ADE/33.43.49.80.103.189 Message Board Post: The "New Ozarks Cousins" Book that was written by V N "Bud" Phillips in 1984, is available through the Newton County Historical Society. They just reprinted the book. It is now fully indexed. For ordering this book plus many other Newton County Books by various authors, please go to: http://hometown.aol.com/newtoncoarkansas/myhomepage/profile.html This book is a collection of the genealogical records of over one hundred Ozark families along with much mountain lore. The publication of the first Ozark Cousins in 1974 created much interest in this type of research and consequently a plea for more. He has gathered data on Ozark families and their connections in distant places. Many of these families were his relatives, acquaintances and friends. Families that lived in Boone County, Searcy County, the Piney Creek area of Newton and Johnson Counties area are featured. There are 14 different chapters on these families. In each section, he talks about the families that lived in that area. Many humorous stories are told about these families as well as their genealogy. He touches on so very many families that they could not possibly all be listed here. I have had my copy of this book since about 1980 and used it to get started in my research of the folks in this area. It is a good, basic start for research in this area. Bud wrote this book when he lived in Bristol, Virginia. He has written several other books. His books are listed on this website if you want to take a look. http://www.overmtn.com/Pages/btnva.html

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xV.2ADE/562.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Cleo. The information I have is from a book written about the Ark Greenhaws.and probably had other families listed as well. A lady from Ark sent me about 12 pages about the Greenhaws and I think 3 families they married into. The pages do not have the name of the book or the author tho and I have lost contact with the lady who sent it to me. I have found a few bits of information that conflict with info from other sources, too. I don't know when the book was written so whoever was giving the info may have just considered all the area Okla since so many of Ephriam's children did live in Okla. I think there is references to Hominy and Pryor and maybe a couple of other places. Do you think Okla was a territory back then or maybe part of Col? That is interesting about the boys at Shiloh. Could you send me the llist of their names? Were they all killed? You can e mail me direct if you want to. If you get a chance to go to Williamsburg, Va, John Greenhow'a residence has been restored - The Greenhow-Repiton House as well as his merchantile house. It bears the sign : JOHN GREENHOW, FINE TEAS,1768 and they have a special book for all Greenhaw descendants to sign. He and 2 of his wives, Judith and Elizabeth, are buried in Bruton Parish Cem in Williamsburg, Va. I have drawings of their burial places. His first wife Rachel I have heard is buried in James City, Va and I have not learned where his 4th wife Rebecca is buried. This book I have says that one of the Greenhaw boys who came to Ark had his grandfathers rifle that he[ John Greenhow,] had used in the Revolutionary war. My line comes from Jonathan and Nancy Meacham Greenhaw, Jr and their son Washington Lewis Greenhaw. I just turned 68 so like you, I find family history more exciting now than ever. Maybe because I have more time to devote to searching for it. Ha ha. I have a friend who is a librarian at an LDS library. I will ask her if they have any information on Sol. Will let you know if she finds anything. Good talking with you. Ferne

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xV.2ADE/562.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Ferne: I would imagine that the Sol you mentioned that was killed in a railroad accident was actually the Sol (My Grandfather) that was killed in Colorado. The one borned in 1882. No records for him here, in Oklahoma, as Oklahoma was not a state until 1907. I do have a document that some one aqquired and gave to me that traces the Greenhaws from England(Name change from Greenough and Greenhough) came later. It traces the family from Virgina, where they first lived to Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. It does list some 27 slaves and their names of a plantation the Greenhaws owned. It is so hard to decipher as it was written in the language of early America. If I get it done in the future I will send you a copy It starts with a Greenough Nobleman, close to the King of that time. It says that some evil person tore out the first 12 pages. Goes thru to the end of the war and speaks of the familys migration north to Arkansas..Nine Greenhaw boys fought for the South at Shiloh. It is very interesting. I went to Shiloh and sure enough they are all listed on the register of the Southern boys. I have their names. I enjoy conversing with you.. Family means more when you get older I guess. I am near 70 (April) There are Greenhaws in Talequah Oklahoma. Also I have the ph. nos. and town and states of all the Greenhaws in the U.S. But I do not know who to call. Cleo

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xV.2ADE/562.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi cleo, This is the closest info I can find and it is slightly different information . I have an Ephriam B Greenhaw who was the son of Greensberry and Sally Bridges Greenhaw. This Ephriam was from Mt Judea, Ark, he was the postmaster there and in fact he named Mt Judea from the Bible according to the history I have. This Ephriam had a son also named Ephriam Kingston 'Uncle Pace' Greenhaw but I don't have a brother named Sol listed for him. However this Ephriam K had a son named Ephriam who married Mary Standbridge and a son named Sol who was born ca after 1882 but I don't have an exact date. The information I have is that he was married but no spouse name given and that he was killed in a railroad accident in Ok . It doesn't give the nature of the accident so perhaps it could have been a cave in during construction or something. This accident probably happened after 1904 so perhaps you could find his death or maybe even a death certificate from the Ok death records which might possibly give his wife's name or if you can at least find the date and county you might could find an obituary, so you could know if this is the Sol you are looking for. [ I just re read my other post and see that I typed 'living' instead of 'looking' ! Sorry about that.] Several of Ephriam K's children lived in Ok. No other info is given about Sol tho as to children etc. The other Sol is the son of a daughter so his name is not Sol Greenhaw. Good luck searching Ferne

But I can tell you about the ones buried in Moore Cemetery about 1.9 miles north of the Highway. The oldest one that I knew was Virgie Garrison Gregory wife of Ira A. Gregory. She is dead now. She helped my husband locate a grave in Moore Cemetery for an older Standridge man who had been dead for a long time. He now has a Civil War marker.
