I am trying to keep everyone updated on the Nashville area. As I know vacations are coming up and many have plans to visit the area. Kathy, listowner
When you are making a rquest for one of the volunteers on the lookups pages, PLEASE include given and surname. We all have busy lives and your request may not be the only one they receive. And to have a request asking for the Smiths in the cemetery book is too much to ask. Please limit your request to only 2 - I have found on a minimum request that volunteer if they have the time will give me more information than I have requested. We are going to find volunteers requesting to be taken off the pages and we will all suffer. Also as Webmaster and Listowner, I have always requested that the county name be placed somewhere in the subject line on the email directed to me. When mail is slow, I feel that it must be directed at me. I have found emails that were to me and all that was in the subject line was ex. "surnames" On a normal day, I get home to 200 - 300 emails a day - that one would be deleted as I went thru. I apologize if I have missed an email from you. Please help me make sure I get your email! Kathy

I am sending this on in case any of you are doing research in these counties listed. If you send in a request to the county you may be a while getting an answer. Also I do have family in the Nashville area. (They are all fine). But if you were planning a trip to the Tn Archives. The Archives sets at the bottom of the hill of the Capital building that was hit. It is my understanding there was not a lot of damage to the archives. But I am sure there will be some work being done in the area and you may have a problem getting to the archives. Before making a long trip I would suggest you call and check on the condition. The areas that were shown on the TV that was hit hard are not far from the archives so this too may cause you traveling problems in the area. Kathy
Hi all!! I do the 1850-1880 census look ups for the Newton County webpage. I will be gone for three weeks or so from 4/20 - 5/15. Four new cemeteries have been added. Old Piney, Gillham, McHorse, & New Bethel. Also Certificate of Pensioner's Continued Indigency & Disability. Again on Ken's trip from Florida, he met me to work these cemeteries. We worked long hard hours and both had a bit of sunburn. And I found out one thing as I literally fell out of the bed onto the floor - Ar has something we don't have in Ok - they have two 5:30's in one day. May change my mind on wanting to move to Ar.<gr> I just want to say I appreciate his help and while on one of the cemeteries he helped me with - please get his email from that page and tell him thank you for all his efforts! Also Gillham was contributed by Whitney McLaughlin. Her email is on the Gillham Cemetery page. Please send her and email thanking her for her efforts! I appreciate all of you who have sent me emails with your family information to post on the different pages. YOU all are what makes the Sevier County Website successful! Thank you very much!! Watch the announcement of the Howard County cemeteries that will be posted in the next few weeks. Also a few of the earliest tax lists for Sevier county. ALBERT J. (IKE?) REEVES was born Abt 1838 in Arkansas. He married DELITHA JANE DAVIS between 1860-1862 in Newton County, Arkansas. His father was born in North Carolina and his mother was born in Virginia. Nothing else is known about them. Delitha Jane was the daughter of JAMES DAVIS and NANCY (FRYE) DAVIS, both of North Carolina. She was born Jan 23, 1841, also in North Carolina. I am trying to prove that Delitha Jane Reeves was the JANE DAVIS in the 1860 Newton County census along with her mother, a widow, Nancy Davis and her other two daughters, Mary/Mazy and Sarah Davis, my great grandmother. She married ABSALOM CARROLL PHILLIPS Jan 17, 1864. Both Jane Reeves and A.J. Reeves were witnesses to the marriage. Children of Albert Reeves and Delitha Davis are: 1) Eliza A.3 Reeves, born Abt 1862 in Newton County, Arkansas. 2) Isham (Isam) Reeves, born 9/04/1864 in Newton County, Arkansas; died 7/02/1942 in Newton County, Arkansas. He married Martha Lee. 3) Nancy E. Reeves, born 4/18/1867 in Newton County, Arkansas; died 1/31/1884 in Newton County, Arkansas. 4) Mary E. Reeves, born 6/21/1869 in Newton County, Arkansas; died 6/27/1871 in Newton County, Arkansas. 5) Sarah L. Reeves, born Abt 1873 in Newton County, Arkansas. 6) Laura J. Reeves, born 3/10/1875 in Newton County, Arkansas; died in Probably died young and unmarried. 7) Marth A. Reeves, born Abt 1877 in Newton County, Arkansas. 8) Frank W. Reeves, born 12/1879 in Newton County, Arkansas. There may have been more children born after 1880 that I don't know of. Would appreciate any help I can get on this family. Thanks so much. Hi! Time to repost this!! I have been looking long and hard for my "lost" Davis, and a James no less. James was born in North Carolina. I don't know the county. He married Nancy FRY and they had the children listed below. He died between 1845-1860 I believe. Nancy Davis then moved to Newton County, AR where I found her in the 1860 census. Her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Davis married ABSALOM C. PHILLIPS in 1864, during the Civil War. They were my great grandparents. My grandparents were ROSCOE CONKLIN and ANGIE (TENNISON) PHILLIPS of Newton County, AR. If you have any information on these families I would appreciate hearing from you. Glad to share what I have on them so far. Thanks so much. Charlene 1 JAMES DAVIS b: Abt 1800 NC d: 1845-1860 NC. This cames across one of the other lists I am on - thought it might be helpful in your search. Kathy "In case you ever wondered why a large number of your ancestors disappeared during a certain period in history, this might help. Epidemics have always had a great influence on people - and thus influencing, as well, the genealogists trying to trace them. Many cases of people disappearing from records can be traced to dying during an epidemic or moving away from the affected area. Some of the major epidemics in the United States are listed below. 1657 Boston: Measles 1687 Boston: Measles 1690 New York: Yellow Fever 1713 Boston: Measles 1729 Boston: Measles 1732-33 Worldwide: Influenza 1738 South Carolina: Smallpox 1739-40 Boston: Measles 1747 Conn, NY, PA & SC: Measles 1759 North America (areas inhabited by white people): Measles 1761 North America & West Indies: Influenza 1772 North America: Measles 1775 North America (especially hard in New England): Epidemic (unknown) 1775-76 Worldwide: Influenza (one of worst flu epidemics) 1788 Philadelphia & NY: Measles 1793 Vermont: Influenza and a "putrid fever" 1793 Virginia: Influenza (killed 500 people in 5 counties in 4 weeks) 1793 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever (one of worst) 1783* Delaware (Dover) "extremely fatal" bilious disorder 1793 Pennsylvania (Harrisburg & Middletown) many unexplained deaths 1794 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever 1796-97 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever 1798 Philadelphia: Yellow Fever (one of worst) 1803 New York: Yellow Fever 1820-23 Nationwide: "fever" (starts on Schuylkill River, PA & spreads) 1831-32 Nationwide: Asiatic Cholera (brought by English emigrants) 1832 New York & other major cities: Cholera 1837 Philadelphia: Typhus 1841 Nationwide: Yellow Fever (especially severe in South) 1847 New Orleans: Yellow Fever 1847-48 Worldwide: Influenza 1848-49 North America: Cholera 1850 Nationwide: Yellow Fever 1850-51 North America: Influenza 1852 Nationwide: Yellow Fever (New Orleans 8,000 die in summer) 1855 Nationwide (many parts) Yellow Fever 1857-59 Worldwide: Influenza (one of disease's greatest epidemics) 1860-61 Pennsylvania: Smallpox 1865-73 Philadelphia, NY, Boston, New Orleans, Baltimore, Memphis & Washington DC: A series of recurring epidemics of Smallpox, Cholera, Typhus, Typhoid, Scarlet Fever & Yellow Fever 1873-75 North America & Europe: Influenza 1878 New Orleans: Yellow Fever (last great epidemic of disease) 1885 Plymouth, PA: Typhoid 1886 Jacksonville, FL: Yellow Fever 1918 Worldwide: Influenza (high point year) More people hospitalized in World War I from Influenza than wounds. I am searching for any information on John BRISCO in Newton Co. His wife's name was Nancy. Does anyone know her maiden name? When did John die and buried? I find him last in the 1860 Newton Co census. Any further information on his children other than their names is greatly appreciated. Thank you Kathy
