Mahala __?__ was born 1825-1826 in Indiana; died 1/19/1877 in Newton County, Arkansas. She married Mr. Riggs before 1841 in Indiana or Missouri. We have no marriage records. Mr. Riggs died about 1859 probably in Jefferson Twp., Carroll County, Arkansas, which is now located in Boone County. Mahala and Mr. Riggs had the following children: i. James A. Riggs, born 1841 in Missouri; died 3/13/1866 in Wilcoxon, Newton County, Arkansas, died from wound inflicted during Civil War; married Nancy A. Harp 8/24/1862 in Newton County, Arkansas. ii. Benjamin F. Riggs, born Abt 1843 in Missouri, possibly Tany County; died 9/15/1864 in Newton County, Arkansas, killed in action in Civil War. iii. Robert Riggs, born 1845-1847 in Stone County, Missouri; nothing else is known, other than he served in the Civil War. iv. Jane Riggs, born 1850 in Missouri; died Unknown in Newton County, Arkansas ?; married John Skaggs 9/11/1868 in Newton County, Arkansas. v. Thomas Benton Riggs, born 3/17/1852 in Missouri; died 3/19/1927 in Newton County, Arkansas; married Gracie Jane Armstrong 3/08/1875 in Newton County, Arkansas. vi. William Riggs, born Abt 1854 in Arkansas, possibly Carroll County; died in Newton County, Arkansas ?; married Malinda McGowen 2/15/1877 in Newton, Newton County, Arkansas. vii. George Riggs, born 1855-1856 in Arkansas, possibly Carroll County. viii. Nancy Ann Riggs, born 2/07/1860 in Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson Township, Carroll County, AR; died 3/20/1943 in Newton County, Arkansas; married Allen T. Tennison 12/24/1877 in Newton County, Arkansas. This is one of my really hard brickwalls. We have not been able to find Mahalas maiden name or Mr. Riggs first name. We dont know where in Indiana they were born, only that census records state that is where they were born. Any help at all would be appreciated. I am descended from their youngest child, Nancy, my great grandmother.

I have just finished updating all my counties. PLEASE PLEASE put the county name in the query somewhere. I found many that did not list anything but names and I cannot post these to the website. I do not know if you are just a person pasting your family names all over the United States or if you actually have a query for the county. If you do not find your query posted please resubmit with the county name in your query. ALSO I must apologize and I feel very badly for those who placed their query in Sevier County. Just as I clicked to save the queries my niece IMed me and it saved her im and not the queries. I did not realize this until after I had cleared the board. Please accept my apology and I would not blame you all if you placed a 100 queries a week for a month on the sight. Please resubmit the queries. I do hope I can make it up to Sevier Co. as I will be making an announcement in a few days for the county and hope that it will help some of you in your search. Morgan Co has a couple of new books that has just been published and posted. And another one coming towards the end of the year. Once the weather has cooled I will be making trips to Howard and Newton Co and get more information posted to these sights. I thank all of you who send the information in for the websites. Hi, All I am new to this list. I am seeking any and all information on Joseph Looper born 1800 in TN (Overton County). He first shows up in Madison Co, AR, in 1860 with wife, Susannah and children: Amanda, Isaac, Ambrose, Susanah and Dalitha. His older children were: Lorenzo D., Elzada and Joseph. Joseph (1800) and son, Lorenzo D., can be found in the land records along with a Rebecca Looper that I cannot identify, but might be the wife of Lorenzo D. Joseph appears again in the 1870 Census, Piney Twp, with Mary A. Southerland (born AL, keeping house), Susan, Martha, Frances and Benton, but these children are probably Southerlands. After the 1870 Census, Joseph and his family seem to disappear. Does anyone recognize any of these names? Joseph may have died 10 Apr 1877 in Huntsville, Madison Co, AR, but I have been unable to find any cemetery record of this. Thank you, Vonnie Looper Munnerlyn
Thought you all might like to know what is happening with our sponsors of the the County website and mailing list. I not only donate my time to design and update the websites. Look in the new book "Old Folks Talking" to find info on the Boen Family. It tells alot on Cager Boen. I bought the book at the Genealogy Fair at Leslie, Ar. This book tells good stories on alot of families in Newton Co. It was written by Jim Liles, Buffalo Natl. River.
There is a book on the Newton Co. cemeteries, we found it in the Fayetteville, Ark. library. I copied several cemeteries, but that was not one of them. Maybe your library can get it.
Hello; I am wondering if some one in the Limestone Valley area , could get me a list of the Baucoms, that are buried the Clayborn Cemetery there. , or if someone knows if there is a cemetery book wrote on the cemeteries in that area? I am unable to go there and look for myself at this time. Also any info someone may have on Samantha Clayborn , and William Ballinger , Samantha later married a John Baucom. I will be so grateful for any info that I can get. In the Boston Mountains, Newton Co., Ark there lived (at least) two families, the BOEN and RUSSELL families. I don't have the parents names (for which I am searching on your list) but there were two children born about the same time. Christopher Columbus BOEN was born about 1858/9 Boston Mnts, Newton, AR Polly Ann RUSSELL was born about 1858/9 Boston Mnts, Newton, AR Columb's father died about 1863, so he should be listed on tax lists until then and then a woman would be listed. (does anyone know where I can check these?) They grew up and were married to each other 13 July 1875 Johnson Co., ARK then both moved to OK until they departed this life there. I'd like to find out who their parents are. Who their brothers and sisters are and what did they did in Newton County for a living? I'm not able to travel there to search the county books and library there. Hopefully when my kids are grown I can travel and see the beautiful country side. Thanks so much for your time. Looking for any information on the the above surnames. The LuAllen's arrived in Newton County, Jasper, AR somewhere between 1910 and 1920. John LuAllen was married to Jane Mason. John's son Orus married Della Neighbors, her parents were Silas Neighbors and Mary ?. She had several brothers and sisters, Della's sister Martha Jane born about 1907 in AR. married a Gus Brasel. It is possible that his father ran the general store in Jasper. Any information on the above families would be a great help. Thanks Lisa Parker e-mail lparker@cdsinet.net.

Hi everyone! A month ago we visited several Scott and Newton County cemeteries. I noticed that in several instances there would be a large gravestone with the husband's and wife's names on it and several feet in front or in back of that stone would be two smaller stone side by side a couple of feet apart. On these stones would be either their first names and a date or it would say something like Mom on one and Dad on the other. Usually these smaller stones looked much older and more worn. Can anyone tell me if this is a tradition? Are they perhaps the original stones, are the "footstones", what are they? Thanks very much. I hope this is not an inappropriate question for the mailing list. Charlene
