Before time gets away from me I want to thank each and every one of you who has submitted their information on the county. As I have told you before, the county site is YOURS because without you it would be nothing. You have shown great support and interest and I appreciate it very much. Please give yourselves a pat on the back! I hope to see the success continue in the next year. If anyone has a suggestion on a page they would like to see created - please contact me. I would like to know if there are volunteers that would like to help on getting the census records posted on the website. Now it cannot come from published books as there are copyrights. But if we could all work on just maybe 10 or 15 pages of a census year before we know it they would all be up and running. If you are interested please contact me. Let me know the year and once I get notice from those wishing to help I will let each one know what pages to work on so that we won't have more than one doing the same pages. For Newton, Howard & Sevier Cos., Ar I do have the 1850 census on cd and am working on those myself right now. I would like to purchase a microfilm reader so that I could work on the census fairly regularly and then donate the film to that county. But I have not found one yet. I am in my slow period with work so I have been trying to get all the information posted that is submitted to me within a weeks time. I apologize that during my working months that I may not get the sites updated any sooner than once a month. But during that time I am usually only home one weekend out of the month. For those of you who do not know, I am the owner of Genealogy Shoppe. I have met many of you from the websites at genealogy seminars that I have taken Genealogy Shoppe. I have enjoyed putting faces with names. So if any of the rest of you attend a seminar - I have not had time to post my next years dates on the website yet - please look and see if I am there and come by and say hello. I have been limited to Ok., Ar., Mo., Tx., La., Tn. & Ks. But now that I have another person helping me out I hope to be able to expand to other states so I hope to see you! I also want to say I hope everyone has safe and enjoyable holidays. And please do not drink and drive. I hope the coming year finds you success in your research and I hope the county is a part of that success. Hi all I hope this is not an inappropriate place to ask this question, but here goes. I have Family Tree Maker 3 and am thinking of installing Family Tree Maker 5. I currently have over 7000 names in my database, and I am wondering if I will be able to transfer those names to the upgraded version. Has anyone out there upgraded from the Version Three to Version Five, and were there any problems doing so? Please respond privatly to char@presys.com Thanks very much Charlene
Hi, I subscribed a few days ago and I haven't received anything. I am researching my father's family. Iam looking for Ricketts or Harris Families from Newton county. Jerry Ricketts born 7-28=1873 and Ollie Harris born around 1880. I think Ollie's father was William G. Harris. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any information on Ricketts Cemetary. Thanks LS

This is about all I know about our Riggs. I know somewhere out there there must be a name for Mr. Riggs! Mahala __?__ was born 1825-1826 in Indiana; died 1/19/1877 in Newton County, Arkansas. She married Mr. Riggs before 1841 in Indiana or Missouri. We have no marriage records. Mr. Riggs died about 1859 probably in Jefferson Twp., Carroll County, Arkansas, which is now located in Boone County. Mahala and Mr. Riggs had the following children: i. James A. Riggs, born 1841 in Missouri; died 3/13/1866 in Wilcoxon, Newton County, Arkansas, died from wound inflicted during Civil War; married Nancy A. Harp 8/24/1862 in Newton County, Arkansas. ii. Benjamin F. Riggs, born Abt 1843 in Missouri, possibly Tany County; died 9/15/1864 in Newton County, Arkansas, killed in action in Civil War. iii. Robert Riggs, born 1845-1847 in Stone County, Missouri; nothing else is known, other than he served in the Civil War. iv. Jane Riggs, born 1850 in Missouri; died Unknown in Newton County, Arkansas ?; married John Skaggs 9/11/1868 in Newton County, Arkansas. v. Thomas Benton Riggs, born 3/17/1852 in Missouri; died 3/19/1927 in Newton County, Arkansas; married Gracie Jane Armstrong 3/08/1875 in Newton County, Arkansas. vi. William Riggs, born Abt 1854 in Arkansas, possibly Carroll County; died in Newton County, Arkansas ?; married Malinda McGowen 2/15/1877 in Newton, Newton County, Arkansas. Nothing else is known. vii. All of the thoughts, emails, and virtual cards and flowers really kept her spirits up going into the surgery. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!! As expected, she is in intensive care for 1-2 days with a wonderful staff at John's Hopkins Hospital taking good care of her. My father and I saw her briefly this evening, but she was still out of it from the anesthesia. Report from the doctor: The surgeon removed the right lobe of her liver including the 2mm cancerous tumor that was located inside it. They also found another tumor in the left lobe of her liver, which was unexpected and measured approximately 1 inch. They removed that portion of the left lobe of her liver as well. In total, the right lobe was 60% of her liver and the portion of the left lobe that they removed was approximately 10%. She will be able to function with the remaining 30% of her liver. Her liver will regenerate to 100% in approximately 6 months. Isn't it amazing how the body works! She did very well during the surgery and the surgery lasted longer than expected due to the unknown tumor in her left lobe. Please keep all of the positive energy coming!!! Every little bit helps. :-) Also, please thank everyone for their warm thoughts and prayers. You guys are great! Best of health to you all !!! Amy --part0_907381279_boundary--

Sevier County will be having a seminar Sat Sept 19 at the annex building at the museum in DeQueen. It will begin at 9:30 am. The fee is $15.00 and a sack lunch with a drink is included (must be notified by Sept 17th for the sack lunch). The morning topic will be Land Records and Laws in Ar. The afternoon topic will be Genealogy for Choctaw Nation. You can contact Joy Raper at joyraper@juno.com if you have any questions. If you missed the AGS seminar - you really missed something great. I did enjoy my time there and appreciate the hospitality that was given. I enjoyed meeting all those I have met thru the website - it's nice to put a face with an email address<gr> I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the seminar in Sevier Co. I have tried to get someone to take Genealogy Shoppe to the Dallas Seminar but no one want to tackle a large show with out me. Hopefully Sevier Co will contact me a little in advance for the next seminar as I sure wish I could attend this one. Any one that attends - I would sure like to hear what you learned.
