I am looking for family information about Dr. W.A. Bradley of Newton County. He lived in Jasper for a time, and in fact his home is now the Bradley Museum where the Historical Society is housed. This is what I know. He was born at Snowball, Searcy County, AR in 1871 and grew up there. He attended Emory University Medical School in Alanta, Georgia, graduation in 1895. He did graduate work at The University of TN and the University of Arkansas. He married Cora Moss in 1896. They had five children. Dr. Bradley died in Harrison, AR in 1955 at the age of 84. Who was Cora Moss' parents? Who were the children of Cora and Dr. Moss. Were Cora's Moss' family connected to the Absalom Phillips family of Newton County. Thanks so much Charlene

Hello, The reason I am sending you this email is because I would like for you to let the list know that I am writing a book on the Family of Charles Holt and his descendants. Charles was born 30 March 1762 in Prince William County, Virginia and died 19 September 1847 in Blountsville, Blount County, Alabama. So far I have over 200 pages of family members, stories and photo's and the book will most likely be over 400 pages. If you would please let the emailing list of Newton County know that I am writing this book, I would truly appreciate it. I also have a webpage on Family Tree Maker that has a report on Charles Holt and in the event that I am missing anyone that is a descendant of Charles from the mailing list I would love to hear from them in case they would be willing to share their information. My webpage address is: www.familytreemaker.com/users/v/a/n/Carri-Lou-Vance/ Thank you for your help and assistance. Carri
Hi All, I am hoping someone out there can help me. I am trying to find out the parents and siblings of an Ambrose Casey. Here is what I have on him. Ambrose Casey b. Newton Co., Ark. ? d. 1939 m. Ark. probably Newton Co. Sarah E. Davison b. Oct. 4, 1861 d. Jan 11, 1887 Limestone, Newton Co., Ark. during child birth. She is buried in the Casey cemetery in Limestone, Newton Co., Ark. I know of 2 children. Lela Casey who married a Morrison and Eva Casey who married John Young. Eva is the child that was born when Sarah died. She was raised by her mothers parents Johnny and Nan Davison. Eva died in 1982 in Cal. John Young's parents were William T. Young and Sarah Virginia Dodson aka Ginnie. Eva and John were second or third cousins. Could Eva Casey's father be the son of Wesley Allen Casey b May 10, 1834 in Tenn. d. July 14, 1905 Limestone Valley, Newton Co., Ark. and Chaney Woodward b. Wesley and Susan's parents were Moses Casey and Elizabeth Coe. Can anyone help figure out this jigsaw puzzle? Sandy noordhof@fcg.net
Hi All, I am hoping someone will resd this and be able to connect to one of the names on this list. If not to the Young name, at least to one of the married names of the girls. Last summer my husband and I traveled to Limestone, Ark. and I find it hard to believe that no one can connect with this family after seeing the size of it. John Kilman Young was b. Nov. 4, 1837 in Bellefonte, Jackson Co., Ala., his parents were Thomas Young s/o Matthew Young and Darcas and Pricie Rash d/o Sarah Rash. He entered service in the 14th Ark. Infantry Regiment July 1861. He was captured and held prisoner on Johns Island, Ohio until he was paroled June 1865. He was a 2nd Lt. in Co. E. He was a farmer, J.P. 1878-1880, and Coroner 1882-1892. He married Susan Casey d/o Moses and Elizabeth Casey, Sept. 21, 1856 at Walnut, Ark. John died Jan 29, 1929 in Johnson Co., Ark. at that time he lived with one of his children. I was told that his funeral services were performed by my ggrandfather Francis Marion Thronebury, who was also living in Johnson Co. and that he was buried in Zadock Cemetery. No one seems to have heard of Zadock Cemetery, but according to an uncle that was present at the funeral, Zadock Cemetery is an old cemetery that is probably all grown up and you can't get to it. I was also told that John Kilman Young was always the guest of Honor at a picnic that was held in Clarksville every year because he was the oldest surviving Confederate soldier and that when he died, there was a big write up on him in the Clarksville newspaper with pictures. Susan Casey w/o John Kilman Young was born abt 1836 in Tenn. and according to Joh's Bible, she died Nov. 21, 1910 in Newton or Johnson Co., Ark. Children of John and Susan are: 1. Herminnia Young m. James White and had 5 children that I know of. In 1911 according to the Confederate Census of 1911 they were living in Limestone Ark. 2. George W. Young b. Jan 3, 1858 m. Margaret Dodson d/o Eli E. Dodson and Rhoda C. Cantrell. According to 1911 Census, they were living in Atkins, Ark. 3. William T. Young b. Jan 23, 1860 d. Aug 26, 1938 Lamar, Johnson Co., Ark. m. Sarah Virginia Dodson d/o Eli E. Dodson and Rhoda C. Cantrell, Nov 3, 1873. According to 1911 Census they lived in Limestone, Ark. These are my great grandparents. They had 10 children. 4. John P. Young b. Sept 21, 1862 m. Elizabeth ?. According to 1911 Census they lived in Capps, Ark. 5. Albert L. Young b. April 30, 1866 m. Aslie ? according to 1911 census they lived in Pleasant Ridge, Ark. 6. Allen L. Young b. Sept 16, 1868 m. Elizabeth ? July 22, 1892 According to 1911 census, they lived in Limestone, Ark. 7. Dora Elizabeth Young b. March 30, 1873 d. Jan 4, 1893 8. Edward Young b. 1874 9. R. E. Young b. May 31, 1875 10. James C. Young b. Nov. 23, 1877 d. March 16, 1913 Ark. m. Lillie ? According to the 1911 census they lived in Limestone, Ark. Sandy noordhof@fcg.net
I sure hate bothering you all AGAIN. But then I was in the process of updating counties when this came thru...guess there's no rest for the wicked<GR> I thought abt this all morning and decided you should not be left in the dark. I want your opinions on the matter but please send them directly to me...I will make a webpage where all views can be seen. This way if you are interested you know what is being said, if not then you will not be bothered on the mail list. RootsWeb has merged with MyFamily.com - I will include the email that came thru so you know what was said. I am keeping close watch on views of other listowners...I will not voice my opinion at this time as I would not want to sway an opinion in either direction. Please email me at HudsonK@aol.com Thank you Kathy, Listowner <<<Good News, Bad News, Good News: RootsWeb and MyFamily.com Merger Good news: You, our contributors, with your financial support, have helped create at RootsWeb one of the largest and most popular sites on the Internet. In May, we had over 149 million page views (according to Nielsen NetRatings combined home and work statistics), sent over 155 million e-mails, and handled over two million downloads of files from the various archives hosted at RootsWeb. Everyone, take a bow! This is an incredible community of genealogists, and the advances we're all making in our research due to the sharing that occurs here is unprecedented. Bad news: The more popular RootsWeb becomes, the more costly it is to simply stay alive and online. Even with your generous support, expenses continue to exceed revenue. We ran up a truly scary loss last year. Without outside help, it's not clear how long we'd be able to go on like this. Good news: MyFamily.com (you may know them better as Ancestry.com) recognizes the importance of the genealogical community that has grown here at RootsWeb, and wants that community to continue to thrive. They're excited to provide the financial stability we need to ensure RootsWeb will be around for years to come. Brian and I are pleased by Ancestry.com's coming involvement with RootsWeb. Now we can all focus on helping each other on the mailing lists and message boards, uploading our GEDCOMs, and building Web pages to share our research. More good news: No one is going to charge you to use RootsWeb. You'll still find RootsWeb at www.RootsWeb.com. Everything you're used to using will still be here: the 19,000 mailing lists, the hundreds of millions of names in free genealogy databases, the interactive learning guides, the weekly RootsWeb Review and Missing Links, the numerous tools for tracing your family history, the tens of thousands of message boards, the thousands of independently authored web sites. RootsWeb will still support worthy genealogy projects and societies, such as the USGenWeb Project (www.USGenWeb.org), the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild (ISTG.rootsweb.com) and the FreeBMD Project (FreeBMD.rootsweb.com), and other groups that provide free genealogical resources. You will of course still get all of services and benefits we promised you, such as mailing lists and access to PML, the feature that scans all our mailing lists and message boards for the surnames you specify. And don't worry, you won't be charged to access RootsWeb. No one will put your data on CD without your permission. Our Privacy Policy (http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/pledge.html) and our Acceptable User Policy (http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html) are unchanged. Other promises made over the years will continue to be honored. You'll still deal with the same RootsWeb volunteers and employees. In fact, most users won't notice any changes, except exciting new tools, more content, and better genealogical resources. If you would like more information, please check out our official press release at http://www.ancestry.com/home/celebrate/rootsrelease.htm >>>

Thomas, I don't know whether Jeremiah ever went to Newton Co. or not. I sort-of doubt it. I made a mistake in the Co. they were from -- it was Perry Co. KY, not Leslie Co. Jeremiah Smith married Elizabeth Jones in Clay Co. KY 9-11-1813 The 1850 census shows them in Perry Co. These three counties are next to each other and I think parts of some become others. :^) The children of Jeremiah and Elizabeth were Lucinda , Margaret (Peggy), Dorcas, Sarah (Sally), Mary Jane, Sylvania, Huston, Preston, Sylvester, (my husband's great-great-grandfather) and Lewis. I know that William Smith of Newton Co. was the son of Preston. He supposedly walked from KY to AR after his first wife died in childbirth. I have been told that there was already family there, but I don't know who that was. I hope this helps a little. Let me know if I can do anything else for you. Judy Woods
Charlotte, It was good to hear from you. When you get on this internet, you realize how small the world really is. My parents were married in Martinez, CA in 1940. I was born in Antioch, CA in 1947. My husband and I moved to OK in 1977 when CA started getting "too crowded and too hectic". :^) This is where his parents grew up and married - before going to CA and raising their family. There appears to be a "reverse migration" BACK to this area. There are two families of Burdines here. My husband's aunt, Martha Hunter (b. 1910), married Fate Burdine. I don't know if that was his real name or a nickname and I don't know when they married - I doubt she was very old. I will do some checking and let you know. I checked the phone book - there are two Peebles listed. If there is anything you want me to check on for you , just let me know. Oh, Yeah, the Smiths. :^) (got sidetracked) Let me know if you find the Smith/Burdine connection. I would love to find a connection with these here. Before I get everyone too confused, let me explain that the Smiths are my husband's father's line - and the aunt that married the Burdine is my husband's mother's line. I'll leave you all with that. Have a good day. :^) Judy Woods
Hi Billie, Thank you so much for responding. Yes, this is the same William and Amanda Smith. Rachel was their oldest child. She was born in 1879. The 1880 census shows them together in Murry Tnsp. I didn't know this was his second marriage. He was only 22 in 880 - what happened to his first wife? Who are you descended from? I am in contact with the daughter-in-law of William G. Between her and the internet, we have traced William back to his grandfather -- Jeremiah Smith of Leslie Co. KY. There is an added twist here. One of Rachel's daughters, Jannie Noe, (my husband's grandmother) married a man named Charles Woods. His mother's maiden name was Malinda Smith - also a descendant of Jeremiah Smith. Jannie and Charles were second cousins - once removed. :^) Oops. My husband and his father and not only father and son - they are fourth cousins. I would be more than happy to share any information I have and look forward to corresponding with you. Judy Woods Eufaula, OK
Hello Newton Co. researchers. I am new to the list and thought I had better introduce myself. I am researching the NOE family who was in Newton Co. in the early 1900s. James Garrard Noe (usually known as Garrett) and his brother, Samuel, had a flour mill on Rock Creek near Limestone. Some of Garrett's children married into other Newton Co. families. My husband's great-grandfather, Frank Finley Noe, married Rachael Smith. She was the daughter of William Smith and Amanda Thomas. Maud Noe married William Gillean Mabel Noe married William Ogden Carl Noe married Nettie Casey I have a little information on Samuel's children, but not much. If you have a connection to this family or have any information on them, I would love to hear from you. Judy Woods
