Father-James Armstrong-Mother-Mary Bird Capt. William Armstrong B/1737 Chester Co., Pa. D/1788 Williamson Co., Tn. married 1765 Orange Co., N.C. Jane Lapsley B/1741 Orange Co., N.C. D/1773 Orange Co., N.C. William Armstrong enlisted 1777 in Col. Thomas Clark Regiment, and Lt. Hogg's Company as a Lt.in the Revolutionary War. After his wifes death he took a commission as Ensign with the 1st Battalion North Carolina Continental Revolutionary Army, and rose to the rank of Captain in 3rd Battalion North Carolina Continental Army through service in various battles. He received a Land Grant of 3,840 acres in Davidson Co., now in Montgomery County, near Clarksville, the middle of Tennessee, which after a period of years, was sold and he finished his days in Hawkins County, East Tn.
