    3. OK - what is a cyber party? Ya'all keep talking about cyber parties - I have no idea what that is - but sure sounds like fun! Also - if we do have one - let's figure out a way to keep all these good recipes that go flying around! I heard someone was going to gather them all together and make a cookbook one other time, but they had a crash and lost them all or something? Anxious to hear all about this!! ....Pam Researching: Vannoy*Merrells*Edwards*Davis*Briggs & Armstrong and on husband's side: Tharp*Dininger*Fernsler*&Walborn >From: ARMSTRONG-D-request@rootsweb.com >Reply-To: ARMSTRONG-L@rootsweb.com >To: ARMSTRONG-D@rootsweb.com >Subject: ARMSTRONG-D Digest V02 #359 >Date: Thu, 14 Nov 2002 17:01:55 -0700 > ><< message2.txt >> ><< message4.txt >> ><< message6.txt >> ><< message8.txt >> ><< message10.txt >> ><< message12.txt >> ><< message14.txt >> ><< message16.txt >> ><< message18.txt >> ><< message20.txt >> _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

    3. Pam, A cyber party can be anything you want it to be.. It's playing "make believe" with all the kids on the List John D Snowless in Alaska P Tharp wrote: > > > OK - what is a cyber party? > > Ya'all keep talking about cyber parties - I have no idea what that > is - but sure sounds like fun! > > Also - if we do have one - let's figure out a way to keep all these > good recipes that go flying around! 3. Hi, Pam, I am the culprit who collected the recipes for our first cyber party and then lost them in a virus attack. I had thought it would be fun to have an e-cookbook of Armstrong favorites from all over, and I still think it would be fun. All it would take is somebody collecting the recipes and then sending them out as an attachment or as straight e-mail to interested A* listers. If we decide to do this again, it's a good idea for everyone who might want to contribute to make sure the measurements and directions are very specific. I write a newspaper column called "Cook of the Week" locally, and I have found that the recipes I get from the cooks sometimes leave a lot to the imagination. You know, there are some folks you must tell to take the pit out of the peach before you put the fruit in the blender! So people have to give careful measurements and specific instructions. Sometimes we think because we know how to make something it would be easy for somebody else, but it usually is not! A cyber party is one that takes some imagination on the part of the participants. The first time we did it different listers who wanted to "attend" usually wrote a bit about where they lived, what their favorite party food and drink was, what they would bring to the party, and what they might do to entertain their fellow listers. Some were musical and offered to bring their instruments to play, others could sing or dance. Some of us wanted to tell jokes to keep the party going, and a few just wanted to sit at the table and test the goodies. We decided where the party would be held. Different listers wrote about their home, a hall in their town, a beach, a mountaintop, a place where we could all get together and have a great time if only in our imaginations and through our words. I can't remember where we decided to have the party....I will have to look through and see if I saved some of that e-mail....but I am sure it was a good place. One of the very nice things about the party was the sense of family we all got from it. There are Armstrongs all over the world and we got to know some of them through the party....a bit about their homes, their families, what they like to do and eat at a party, etc. It was really great to get to know a bit more about some of the listers who are just names, or maybe even just e-mail addresses. We all know it is not strictly genealogy, but since the Armstrongs are all supposed to hail from the Borders originally, before spreading all over the world, then probably someplace, way back in the mist of times when records were not kept, or before records were lost, we were all truly related and part of the group...and so, I suppose, some of that genetic material may still be swimming around in our genes even now. (Yeah, OK, I am more of a romantic than a scientist!) When we have the party it is fun to write to the list and say "I am so and so and I live in such and such state. My work, hobbies, etc., are..... My family is....or is not..... When we party where I live we do such and such......" Etc. Then we can tell what we will bring to the party.... And when the party starts, well, we just write to each other on the list, tell what we are doing, etc. I am sure this sounds very foolish to some, but it was a silly and a good time. It only lasts 24 hours and then we go back to being semi-serious genealogists. cousin Marilyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "P Tharp" <nm_roadrunner@hotmail.com> To: <ARMSTRONG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 15, 2002 5:35 PM Subject: [ARMSTRONG-L] Cyber Party > > > OK - what is a cyber party? > > Ya'all keep talking about cyber parties - I have no idea what that > is - but sure sounds like fun! > > Also - if we do have one - let's figure out a way to keep all these > good recipes that go flying around!
