Charles Armstrong who was reported missing in action in Italy on February 5, 1944, has now been reported as having died in action on that date. The message fron the War department confirming the fears of his family and frieds was received by the widow, Mrs Doris McCarty Armstrong two weeks ago. Mrs. Armstrong has been living in Macon, GA, where she was living with her husband before he was sent overseas. Sergent Arnstrong was in the infantry of the Fifth Army. He had been awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action and the Purple Heart medal before the final battle in which he lost his life. He entered service in Kokomo August 1 1941. He ws 27 years old, had attended school in Kokomo and Elwood and lived for a time in Indianapolis. At the time he entered the Army he was employed as the Frances hotel grill. Surviving besides his wife are his father, William C Armstrong, of 511 North Main street; a son by a fomer marriage, Charles Ronnie of North Leeds street, a brother, Ralph G. Armstrong of 328 South Union street and a sister, Mrs. Lloyd Hedger of 1804 North Wabash avenue. The wife is now in Kokomo. Memorial services for Sergent Armstrong will be held at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Main Street Christian church with the pastor, the Rev. Wales Smith in charge.
