JOHN ARMSTRONG HUGH ALEXANDER ARMSTRONG BETTER KNOW AS ALEX ARMSTRONG The family lived at Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Parish of Derrywoland, Barony of Tyrkennedy Provice of Ulster, Ireland. Their home was called "Isleview" because they could see so many islands in a nearby lake. The origin of the name, Armstrong, was told to Estella Kellogg Wright thus: copied from a letter Estella wrote to Miss Aileen Terpening, dated August 27, 1952. "Long ago a Scottish king had a retainer by the name of Graeme, who was a tasll man and very strong. One day, while riding with his retainer, the king fell from his horse and Graeme picked him up in his strong arms and lifted him onto his horse. Therefore, the king changed his name to "Armstrong" because of the great strength in his arms. The king also gave him a Coat-of-Arms. Georgia Grice, Hugh Armstrong's sister, showed me her beautiful china, which was decorated with this Coat of Arms. She also told me that her brother, William, as well as other relatives had this Coat-of-Arms on their carriage doors." JOHN ARMSTRONG married Frances Moore about 1830.
