Dear James, For what it's worth, I found the microfilmed passenger list of one of the two rescue boats that brought survivors of the William and Mary disaster to New Orleans in 1853. I found them at the Clayton Genealogical Library in Houston. All five members of my grandmother's family of Browns were listed, however two of the names were hardly legible.
