I am not a BBQ expert and have no real desire to become one. Lenexa KS has a big contest every year, the park has a blue haze over it for two days and being a judge is a "prestigious" only requiring a sense of adventure and strong stomach. Being a City Council person put you into that category. It was lots of fun. I think only the contestants were serious about it. They have an "other" category that has all the adventurous stuff in it. I avoided that. The American Royal in Kansas City MO also has a huge contest along with all kinds of other events but I have not done that one. I competed in a couple of Chili contests which was fun. Didn't win though...white chili is not a favorite with most people.
