    3. Dianne, In my previous post, I implied that ALL Armstrong's migrated.. this is not true.. Some stayed on the borders, some moved south into England, and I suppose some may have even changed their names..!! (:>)) Those that migrated to Northern Ireland, Province of Ulster, and later to North America, were very adamant to be recognized as either Scots-Irish or even Ulster Scots..! My own Great Grandparents were very adamant that they were not just Irish, but Scots-Irish...!! I think they were very proud and stubborn people, and I have 4 grandkids who obviously have inherited that same stubborn gene..! (:>)) Sincerely, John Armstrong A Little SoWest of North Dianne wrote: > Are most Armstrongs from Scotland or Ireland. > My grandson is making a Molly's pilgrim doll in the 2nd grade and they have to dress up the doll in clothing of their heritage. I was wondering if the Armstrongs are from Scotland or Ireland. We are going for Scotland with the little kilt skirt thing. We haven't got any further than bucks county Pennsylvania on our Armstrong family. Do the Armstrongs have a coat of arms or a family crest? or is each armstrong family different.? > > > Dianne Heryford > EarthLink Revolves Around You. > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ARMSTRONG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. Dear Patti, Just a brief comment on Armstrong stubbornness. My ancestor John Armstrong is buried in the pioneer Cemetery in Pittsford, New York. He was born in 1760 and lived in Quorndon, Leicestershire, in north central England, between 1760 and 1803. In 1803 he and his wife and nine children immigrated to Pittsford. Apparently he fought in the War of 1812, and died of influenza at the age of 52. His tombstone indicates that he was a Captain, probably in the New York state militia. The history of the town of Pittsford indicates that he also held some offices in the local government.
