I have traced my Australian ARMSTRONGs back to my gGrandfather, John Patrick Armstrong, born calc. 1855 somewhere in Ireland. Since I do not know where he was born in Ireland, I am unable to search records for him at the moment and hence have hit a wall there. John Patrick ARMSTRONG was born calc. 1855 in Ireland, (place unknown). Parents are not known. He died in Australia but death date and place are unknown. John was married on 21 June 1888 (Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia) to Mary DILLON, daughter of John Dillon and Ann McNamara. Mary was born on 2 Dec 1859 in Bombentlo, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia. They had three children Julia P., Michael Laurence Dillon (my grandfather), and John Patrick "Paddy". Noted events in his life were: • John was listed as a Publican on the birth certificate of his son Michael (28 Jan 1890).1 • In 1890, he resided in the Derbyshire Arms Hotel, 372 Sussex St. Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.3 John married Mary Dillon, daughter of John Dillon and Ann McNamara. Mary was born on 2 Dec 1859 in Bombentlo, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia,4 Children from this marriage were: + 2 F i. Julia P. Armstrong was born in 1888 in Junee, New South Wales, Australia, died before 28 Jan 1890. + 3 M ii. Michael Lawrence Dillon Armstrong was born on 28 Jan 1890 in 372 Sussex Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, died on 27 May 1955 in 42 Brandon Avenue, Bankstown, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia at age 65, and was buried on 30 May 1955 in RC Catholic Cemetry, Junee, New South Wales, Australia. Michael married Ellen Kathleen Flinn (b. calc. 1891, d. 1 Apr 1969) on 20 Feb 1917 in St Patricks Church, Henty, New South Wales, Australia. They had ten children: James Michael "Jim" (my father), Sheila Eileen, John Laurence, Mary Ellen "Molly," Alphonsus (Phonse), Kevin, Maureen, Michael J., Ronald, and Leo Patrick. + 4 M iii. John Patrick "Paddy" Armstrong (birth date unknown), died in 1957 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. He never married. Since you know Trudy where your ancestor was born in Ireland (namely Tyrone) there are various sites where you should be able to find out more information.
