    3. Dear Roberta, Unfortunately, I have no information for you; however, I would be interested if you discover anything about this Armstrong family. My family has been traced back to a Stephen Asa Armstrong who was born around 1801 somewhere in Georgia. He settled in northeast Alabama (Jackson/Marshall/Dekalb counties) around 1830. According to family legend, he and his extended family went from Georgia to Tennessee before he split off from them and went to Alabama, and apparently he may have married his first wife, possibly named Rachel Williams, around 1822 in central Tennessee. This would probably be around the same area that you are speaking about Davidson county, or possibly Williamson, Rutherford, Maury or Bedford. For obvious reasons we are making our search broad, but from I can discern about the Tennessee Armstrongs of that time period, there were two main groups: The first in northeastern Tennessee around Knox County, and the second in central Tennessee - these two groups seem to be unconnected, however within each group every seems to be related in some manner. If James and Elizabeth Hodge Armstrong truly were from Davidson County, Tennessee then you are most fortunate, because most of the records for that county are intact. Marriages and divorces begin in 1789 and Land, Probate, Tax and Military records from 1783. They also have a few newspapers beginning in 1808. Good luck! And please let me know how it goes.
