    3. John D. Wait for the Airedale. My very best friend for many years was an Airedale and the worst day in history was the day we had to put her down. She was really a character. I would get another but both Mulligan the cat and the subdivision bylaws say I can't. Don't know about cairns but I do recall that several years ago a couple of A's claimed they had some good yorkie recipes. 3. Our Scotch-Irish ancestors drank rum, and plenty of it, in New England anyway, as soon as it became available and they could stop making poteen from potatoes. Rum was easy to get as ships filled empty cargo holds on their return trip from the Caribbean, and later they even made it in Boston. People drank it all day to keep warm in the winter, or feeling better at other times...men, women, and even (watered down) older children...and most had great tolerance. Although they drank a lot of rum, it didn't make (most of ) them intoxicated as they were so used to consuming it. (OK, I'm not talking the Puritans here...most of the S-I were Presbyterians.) 3. Marilyn Actually I believe not only the Scots-Irish but the majority of the settlers drank a lot of beer and rum up until the British put up a Blockade on Boston... so nothing was coming in from the Caribbean, and with Yankee ingenuity, farmers learned it was cheaper to ship their "corn" to market in liquid form than dry form..!! and thus... Bourbon replaced Rum as a favorite liquid refreshment... You didn't get your invite to the party yet??? And here I was thinking I was the only one feeding their kids alcohol! lol When Jade was a baby she suffered terribly when she was cutting teeth. Someone suggested I try rubbing her gums with brandy. I was so desperate one night I raced out and bought one of those tiny little bottles. You should've seen the heads turn when I got to the checkout! lol Anyway, it worked a treat and we ALL got sleep that night, and every night I had to use it on her gums. Oh, and her teeth never suffered from it, despite warnings from my infant welfare nurse! ;D Take care, Robyn. IBSSG Stockbridge, Georgia, USA Honey's Home of Genealogy www.robsfamily.com

    3. Dear JDA, In response to your enquiry, I forgot to say that my father sneered at rye because it was a blended whiskey and could have most anything in it. Bourbon is a single mash product. I don't drink much of it for health reasons. I am limited to an occasional glass of wine, unless I go to KY, of course. 1. Re: [ARMSTRONG] an Enquiry
    2. Thomas Fiske
    3. Dear JDA, Having been brought up in KY by a man whose dad was a Federal Revenuer, I can say that Bourbon is made from corn and the finished product is not blended with any other thing. It is aged in new ash (I think) barrels for at least 4 years. It is best taken alone. If you are going to mix it with something other than branch water, I would suggest rum or rye. It was my family custom to put rum in egg nog. Why waste Bourbon? We did put Bourbon in sweet potatoes. Delish! And our children's cough syrup was Bourbon and sugar mixed with some water. It worked, too. I think brandy is made from distilled (cheap) wine. At least it tastes like it. 20% alcohol at best. But now I am into opinion and you probably want facts.
