    3. Cousin Marilyn, I can imagine all the commotion!! Where do some of these strange birds come from? During the Memphis in May BBQ, these strange people wearing stovepipe hats and such would show up and after the contest was over, they would disappear, never to be seen again until the next BBQ contest! Cousin Marilyn, I been too sick to have happy hour and you and John D know I have gone years without missing my CC and Diet Dew!! 3. Actually Marilyn, (:>)) the welcome statement doesn't say that anymore... on one of Rootsweb updates they wiped out the welcome messages and install a generic thing.. I just never got around to updating our welcome message due to the diminishing activity on the list... Perhaps mr Graham will take his officious attitude and go over to Helen's list.. 3. Dear Barry, Obviously, you are a newcomer to our band. Unlike on some other genealogy lists, here we consider ourselves all "cousins". In the border clans, if one was adopted, married, or born into the clan, one was accepted as a cousin or relative and that's how members of the proud border clan, the Armstrongs, consider themselves on this list. If you read the welcome statement when you subscribed, you'd have seen that any form of polite discussion is allowed except for topics dealing with religion, sex, or politics. We feel that this policy works well for our group although it sometimes startles newcomers. It seems that being friendly doesn't detract from our serious genealogy work. Some of us have been Armstrong researchers on this list for many years so feel a real kinship even if we can't trace our families back to an ancestor in common. Friends and relatives like to know about and talk with each other from time to time, and that's what's happening here. 3. Hey, hey, cousin Fount, Good to see you back with us! What's with this "ole sick Cousin Fount." Say it's not true. I sure hope it's not. Yes, it's a madhouse and tomorrow it'll be over and all the newscasters and commentators will fold their tents and leave NH behind. They are lucky this week that it's unseasonably warm and they aren't freezing their little feet standing outside breathing steam and trying to interview some person who only wants to do some shopping. Can you believe there are 50 people on the ballot! Yes! And of course most of them nobody's ever heard of except maybe Mom and the Mrs. We went down to the main street of Manchester NH (Pop. about 110 thousand, largest city in NH) because our daughter said we should see the circus. Big mistake! Everybody else was down there, too, including all the TV trucks. There are a lot of unknown fringe characters running for president,as I said, and one guy who apparently had decided to be on the ballot was wearing an upside-down- rubber boot on his head and wearing feathered, yellow chaps on his legs...he had a few folks, also wearing the upside-down overshoes on their heads, parading with his signs ("Vote for Vermin Supreme"..yes, his real name) and had a recording of the "chicken dance" playing. It was pretty strange. This is the time that besides the official candidates, a lot of odd folk come out of the woods or down from the mountains and from out of state and proclaim their candidacy...it sure keeps things lively. On Wednesday, we'll all go back to normal, winter will come back, the streets won't be so crowded, our mailboxes won't be so full and the phone will stop ringing with pollsters wanting to pick our brains. 3. Dear Tom, I'm sure after you get out there you'll find many folks to talk with. My son lives in the Atlanta area. I know sometimes he talks with people quite a distance away. When you get going, I'll give you his call letters. As far as not deleting all the previous conversations, sometimes it's really helpful to have them follow a note to the list as chances are many might have been in on the original discussion. I think the problem is that sometimes we get huge trailers. I use gmail sometimes and I"ll have to take a look at what causes the problem. I use that mail system so seldom that I'm not that familiar with it, but as you say, it's nice to use when you're away from home and want to catch up on things. If you can find that in options, uncheck it so they're NOT included. Does that make sense? Or is my blondeness going to bewilder you more? ;D Take care, Robyn. 3. Dear Robyn, Outlook express is a seems to be a target of virus producers, so I use Mozilla for a browser. Then , I use gmail because my ISP cannot suddenly change my email address, and because I can go from computer to computer and never lose my addresses or my conversations.
