    2. Hi Georgia, In all honesty...it is a photo copy of the original document...and looking at it YES it is possible that it could be :McElwee" . Sorry never even thought of that spelling. But the gentleman Alice married was an "Armstrong" , his first name is Montgomery. Which in all honesty...in my line...my Montgomery Armstrong's first name was because that was his mother's maiden name!If you are interested let me know. 2. Hi all I am posting this on the lists that "may" find/need this info.It is info I have found in my search for my own family and since some of it is NOT mine.....sharing is the next and ONLY step that I firmly believe in. The name "Montgomery Armstrong" is not as common a name as say, John, or James, or William. And although originally I thought "mine" was the only one, I now see there must've been at least 3. If you think you are related or searching for any of these please let me know, for I have either the document OR info in regards to these: "Mine": Montgomery Armstrong b 1812 Drummee, on Inishmore/Ennismore Island. Father: William Armstrong b 1764, mother: Jane Montgomery b 1774, dau of James Montgomery who lived on Inishmore Island. Married-1845 Sarah Buchanan of Tyrone County. They lived in Drummee but by the 1850s moved to near Omagh in Tyrone County. Find: Montgomery Armstrong b ? basic info found in Will (1791) of his grandfather James Montgomery, who died in 1792. Brothers...James, John, Robert and William Armstrong. Uncle- William Montgomery. Land ref to in Will ..."towns and lands of Aughnaloos,&c" in County Fermanagh. Find: Montgomery Armstrong b? basic info found on copy of actual marriage cert. Montgomery's occupation- bank clerk, age- Full, Residence at time: Strabane . His father: James Armstrong, occupation-coroner. Montgomery married Agnes McElevee??(could be ce, or ivee, or ivce?). Alice's age : 19, Residence at time: Londonderry, her father: William McElvee?, occupation: builder? (slightly cut off). Witnesses: William McElvee? and John Eagelson. I only hope that this info might help someone..... Sue in NY **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. 3. Today's Topics: 1. London's Old Bailey puts thousands of cases online (Roxanne) I have a family member who was associated with a man who was convicted of murder at Old Bailey. My great grandma was Eliza Jane Armstrong. Her son Gilbert Rylance was a dentist in London and shared his office with Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen. I saw a program on TV about famous murders and one of them was the Crippen case. They even showed a photo of Gilbert, as he testified at Crippen's trial. Here is the story: The case of Dr. Crippen is one of the most famous UK murder cases of the century. In February of 1910 Crippen poisoned his wife Cora, a small-time actress and singer who appeared on the variety stage under the name of Belle Elmore. She was promiscuous, with numerous lovers, and Crippen fell for his secretary, Ethel le Neve. After poisoning Cora, Crippen cut up her body and buried the remains in the cellar of their home in Holloway, north London. In July 1910 he and Ethel fled Britain aboard the SS Montrose, bound for Quebec, with Ethel disguised as a boy. Cora's body had been discovered by then and the hunt was on for Crippen and his girlfriend. The captain of the Montrose, Capt. Harry Kendall, became suspicious of the two strange passengers and, from circulated descriptions, he became convinced they were Crippen and his mistress. The murder achieved particular fame because it was the first time a killer on the run had been caught by the use of the then new-fangled wireless telegraph. The captain sent a message to Scotland Yard and Chief Inspector Walter Dew immediately boarded a faster ship which gradually overhauled the Montrose across the Atlantic. The chase was bizarre, for the story leaked out to the newspapers and for several days they carried maps showing the detective's pursuing ship steadily gaining on its quarry. Meanwhile, Crippen and le Neve, blissfully unaware that the dramatic pursuit was being read avidly by newspapers readers around the world, calmly dined as guests at the captain's table, believing they had got away with it. Early on the morning the Montrose was due to arrive in Canada, Chief Inspector Dew boarded it in a small boat lowered from his own ship and arrested Crippen and Le Neve. They stood trial at the Old Bailey in November and Crippen was found guilty - principally on the forensic evidence of a young scientist, Dr. Bernard Spilsbury, who was to go on to achieve substantial fame. Crippen was hanged at Pentonville Jail but Ethel le Neve was acquitted and disappeared, changing her name to Harvey and turning up in Canada, the object of her original journey on the run. She eventually sneaked back into Britain when her notoriety had died away, married, had a boy and a girl and only died in London as recently as 1967. 3. I was wondering if anyone has come across Silas Armstrong living in Genoa/Venice/Ledyard yet. I am not sure if there are new members to the list since my last posting, so I will post again my information: I find a HUGE discrepancy in the census records, but I am pretty sure it is the same Silas between 1850 and 1855: http://www.mutantslug.com/armstrong/census/armstrongcensus.html This is pretty much all of the information I have about Silas B Armstrong, but I do have more information on my main Armstrong page: http://www.mutantslug.com/armstrong/Armstrong.html If anyone has seen this line in your searching, please let me know. It has been a dead end of mine for a few years and I haven't found anything new... Thanks, Jessica

She was married to David Armstrong, probably around 1890ish in Ontario, Canada. To my knowledge they had 7 children, 2 boys, 5 girls. At least some of the kids were born in Oil Springs, Ontario. Around the start of the century (maybe into the teens) the family was living in Alberta, they moved from the Battle Bend area to Pigeon Lake. I don't know either of the boys names. 2 of the girls, Ivy & Nora were born in Oil Springs, Ontario. They married Fellers boys and moved to the Peace River Region. The other sisters Jessie (Vitle), Ruby (Finke) & Rena (Churchwell) also lived in the Peace until their deaths. I have found in the LDS search engine an Alice Hunter, born around 1880 in Barrie, Ont married to a David Armstrong. They have one daughter listed, Ethel, who died in Aug of 1962. There is no listed contributor for this info and I am not certain if there is a connection. I would welcome any information on this family. You have peeked my interest! The "original" Armstrong family in "Ireland" that both Foxie and I are related to...was said to have had perhaps 18 children. As of today I have found possibly 10. Now this doesn't mean that yours is definitely related because from searching N Ireland..I can tell you Armstrong is as common as "Smith" is here. BUT..one name that isn't in my list of the original children is "James", and your statement that he was born 1823 tells me he "could've" been a child of one of these original Armstrongs, maybe a "James".. Plus the statement that they came from Ireland. Do you have any idea where (in 1823) this James was born? His parents? His wife's name? There are listed quite a few James Armstrong b 1823, who at one time lived in the Kansas area. If I could find any possible immigration records it would possibly tell me more info. Were there "middle" names? Another clue in this Armstrong line, for they were "big" on this. Foxie and myself think that there were others of these "original" Armstrong family that immigrated from..Oh..it is Northern Ireland that ours came from. Also...in checking immigration lists....if it says departure from "Liverpool" which you know is England...that doesn't mean they were born there. That is a very common route that those in N Ireland used to immigrate elsewhere. I'll be watching the posts. Soopy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
