Hated the English. King put out execution permission to kill them on the spot. They were border raiders on the English border. Fled to Ireland and the new world. My ancesters came through Pa. to Virginia, to Tennessee, to Jackson County Al. William Armstrong a surveyer. Owned 5000 acres of land on Monteagle Mountain. His son Martin came to Jackson county in 1850's. He was a school teacher. His baby brother also lived in the Scottsboro, Al. area. That's all I know. Armstrong name was awarded to a soldier who rode back onto the battle field when the King of Scottland fell from his horse during a retreat from the oncoming English army. H scooped the king up, who had a full body of armor , with one arm and rode him to safety. For that his name was changed from a Norweigian name to Armstrong. The Armstrong bloodline begin in Norway. Hi Mary, Sorry none of those names "ring a bell" with me. Unfortunately my furthest Montgomery is James Montgomery who lived on Inishmore Island in Fermanagh County N Ireland. His daughter (the only one I know about yet) was Jane Montgomery b 1774 (I assume on Inishmore) who married William Armstrong b 1764 in Dryfesdale, Dumfiries ,Scotland. They married, had 18 children, and lived on Inishmore the whole time. They are buried at Derryvullan. As far as the "Montgomery" family the only ones I have are James and his daughter Jane. Jane may have had 1-2 sisters, one of which "may" have married a Scott...this I am looking into. TY but I don't think I can help or connect. Sue in NY PS Have you been posting McAfee prior to this? Because I know I have seen it posted recently on a list....just thought if it wasn't you...could be a connection for you to look into! In a message dated 5/8/2008 9:02:50 A.M. Still checking Sue in New York, but Montgomery is a surname in my line of another Irish descendant - the McAfees, who come from Colonsay, Scotland, Ediboro, then Dublin to PA and Iowa. I believe there is a Jane Montgomery in the mix, and have to dig through papers to find that out for sure. Mary **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight?
