    1. [ARMSTRONG-L] Thanksgiving poem
    2. Rosemary Webb
    3. ...Author Unknown... Thanksgiving poem Come Late in November When I was a young turkey, new to the coop, My big brother Tom took me out on the stoop, Then he sat me down, and he spoke real slow, And he told me there was something that I just had to know; His look and his tone I will always remember, When he told me of horrors. come late in November; now listen to me, "Each day you'll get six meals "And soon you'll be thick, where once you were thin, And you'll grow a big rubbery thing on your chin.." "And then one morning, when you're warm in your bed, the farm wife comes in and hacks off your head!" "Then she'll pluck out your feathers so you're all bald 'n pink, And scoop out your innerds right there in the sink!" "And then comes the worst part" he said.. "i'm not bluffing, She'll spread your cheeks wide n' pack your rear with stuffing!" Well, the rest of his words.... were too grim to repeat, I sat on the stoop... like a winged piece of meat, And i decided on the spot that to avoid being cooked, I'm gonna lay low to remain overlooked! I began a new diet... of nuts and granola, High-roughage salads, carrot juice.... diet cola, I maintained my weight of two pounds and a half, And act like i'm sick... when the bigger birds laughed; And as they ate pastries, chocolate, and crepes, I stayed in my room doing Jane Fonda tapes; for 'twas I who was laughing, under my breath, As they chomped and they chewed, ever closer to death; sure enough when,..... late November rolled around, I was the last turkey, left walking around..... So now I'm a pet... in the farmer's wife's lap, I haven't a worry... so I eat... and I nap... She holds me all day, while sewing and humming... And smiles at me, and says: "Christmas is coming..."

Surnames: Armstrong, Stogdill, McNary Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kQB.2ACIB/2522 Message Board Post: Can you help connect me with my lost great grandmothers (Opal C. Armstrong McNary) family. I found somethings on different sites connecting you to some of the following people. If you can help me in any way....I would really apprecaite it! Opal was married to Jame Archie McNary and they had 5 children. Opal died of cancer, I believe, when my grandma was six years old. My grandmother remembers her grandparents the Armstrongs who lived around Bloomfield, Iowa or Drakesville, Iowa, and maybe Opals fathers name was Louis or Lewis Armstrong. Opal C. McNary's head stone says she was born in 1910 and died in 1944. My mother has that she was born in November and died July 8, 1944. My grandmother remembered that Opal's Sister was Maye and she married a Stogdill and they lived in Bloomfield. And Opals brother was Pearlie Armstrong. And another brother named Cecil Armstrong. I found a list of David DeLee's descendants that went like this. Charles Cecil Armstrong, Elsie L. Armstrong, Maye L. Armstrong, Opel C. Armstrong, and Pearlie Armstrong. My grandmother also said that two of the siblings were institutionalized because they didn't get enough oxygen when they were born. If you could offer any help in any wa! y, I would really appreciate it. Amanda Fugate

    3. Yup! 1st off I got 4 snow machines that need to get the summers dust knocked off of them 2nd as it gets colder, the frost goes deeper.. without a good insulating cover of snow If it gets deep enough, people begin to experience a BIG inconvenience with frozen water pipes and frozen septic systems. Fortunately, I've never had those experiences, but I've helped a few others who have... So I usually do my worrying and complaining now, get it out of the way.. 2. John, don't worry (or anticipate!) too much on twins! My maternal grandfather was a twin, and so was my father. But my parents had only two children, my sister had two, Ed an I had nine (we lost the last little girl), and now most of our children have only two apiece, and a couple have none. There are ten grandchildren, (poss more in the future as our younger son is getting married in May and they both really want kids). Of our grandchildren, three of the boys have children, but not a set of twins to be found! And I've found twins somewhere in about a quarter to a third of each of our lines, especially the Cleveland side (my maiden name). So don't worry (or wish!) too hard! Barbara in MO

    2. Hi, My first cousin has twins. Other first cousins are twins, as are their mother (nee Armstrong), her father, and his mother. This is as far back as I can go - 4 generations of twins in a row, five not in a row. I know nothing about anyone on that branch further back than this g-grandma - possibly more twins.
