    1. [ARMSTRONG-L] Cyber party etc
    2. Hi y'all Party we shall - and Marilyn and I thought it would be great to include (your choice or both) a recipe for the party and perhaps a food that is common to where you live. I live in Georgia, but I lived in Michigan most of my life, and so I guess that means two recipes from me. Also, would you like to share your list of brick walls/ or those family members you have found? Add to that, your option, who you are/ where you live/ etc. Also an option what you are going to wear/drink/play(as in instrument). Any more ideas? All welcome. Mary and Marilyn

    3. Hi, Mary, I think that is a great idea! Do you want to coordinate it, by any chance? We are going to be away for a part of Feb., so I will probably just go into the digest mode for while we are away, or even unsub if there's a lot of mail. Maybe we should say this: If you think you want to play party with us, please send us your name and what you might like to bring/wear/do, etc., for the party. Please send your recipes along with a brief word-sketch of yourself so we will know where you live, what ancestors you are researching, what your idea of a party is, etc. What does everyone think? 3. Gene this survey didn't take in the little light aircraft. We have had a spat of those accidents, but in many cases the planes piots have managed some crash landings, but some not so lucky. If you count the road carnage in your country and even ours, the deaths that way is by far in excess of the passenger of aircrat deaths. 3. HI Barbara, 404 houses in Canberra were lost and four people killed. Many horses were put down out of there misery and the native birds were lying on the ground dead. Dogs and cats etc who were not lucky enough to have family home to save them. It is so sad. then now Victoria also has bushfires with houses threatened and down in the South of Tasmania also. We have also had bushfires up near Strahan village, so there is more to come. February is our hottest month, so I hope there is some rain relief as everything is so dry. We are safe for now and we have lived in this area for 18 years and I have never known a bushfire here where we live on a 21 acre hobby farm surrounded by other farms and plenty of dry vegetation. We have regular updates of the fire. We have just had on the news that an American man has been shot dead in Kuwait, hasn't named him. 1. [ARMSTRONG-L] Cyber Party
    2. Marilyn R. Otterson
    3. Attention, all you Armstrong list party animals, Fount Ray A. and I have been talking about the idea of having another cyber party. FR and I have been thinking that this time we should keep track of all the recipes for cousins' specialties and have a list party cook book after we are done. I would love for somebody to take charge of running the party, but if nobody wants to do it, Fount and I will try to do it. It doesn't take much effort...just picking a date and then letting listers know that it's time to tell us what they will bring to eat and share, to drink and share, what they will wear, what musical or dancing entertainment they might like to provide, and WHERE we will have the party. I will be away on the date we originally spoke of...Valentine's Day...so I am hoping we can put off the party until the first of March. John D. says he doesn't care and it's up to all of us to decide what we want to do. Rigid genealogists will have to hold their noses while we get ready for the party and for the 24 hours we actually have the party. As I remember we started off in Australia and then moved around the world as the day progressed. I don't know if we have any list members in Europe any more, but if we do, then the party will end up there. So...it's time for somebody to step up and offer to chair this madness...and another person willing to start a file of the recipes...and the rest of the group to decide if there is enough interest to go ahead. Yes, it's kind of silly, but it's a good time and helps us all get acquainted with each other, where we live, what we like to do, etc. Let us hear from you! 1. [ARMSTRONG-L] fw: The Amazing Woman Non Gen
    2. Rob and Edie McArthur
    3. To my women cyber friends in Armstrong Land, this is for you. Edie Subject: The amazing woman By the time the Lord made women, he was into his sixth day of working overtime. An Angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?". And the Lord answered and said, "Have you seen the spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have 200 movable parts, all replaceable, run on black coffee and leftovers, have a lap that can hold three children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart, and have six pairs of hands," The Angel was astounded at the requirements for this one. Six pairs of hands! No Way!", "And that's just on the standard model?" the Angel asked. The Angel tried to stop the Lord. "This is too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish," But I can't!", the Lord protested, "I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can work 18 HR days. The Angel moved closer and touched the woman, "but you have made her so soft, Lord." "She is soft," the Lord agreed, "but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish." "Will she be able to think?", asked the Angel. The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason, and negotiate," The Angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman's cheek. "Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one," "That's not a leak," the Lord objected, "that's a tear!" "What's the tear for?" the Angel asked. The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride." The Angel was impressed. "You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything, for women are truly amazing," Women have strengths that amaze men. They carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They fight for what they believe in. They stand up for injustice. They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution. They go without so their family can have. They go to the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally. They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards. They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart. Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes. They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin! They bring joy and hope. They give compassion and ideals. They give moral support to their family and friends. Women have a lot to say and a lot to give. Pass this along to your women friends to remind them how amazing they are...

    1. [ARMSTRONG-L] Family Strays Overseas Perhaps
    2. Rob and Edie McArthur
    3. Hi me again, Just for a matter of interest. We never know where our alusive family may be lurking. such as another country. Heaps of family members, maybe unknown to us, but a very important part of our Family History each year migrant or immigrate to another country. I actually found out years ago about my third cousin who had come to mainland Asutralia with her husband and two sons from England. Many family members find there way over here. For instance, a few days ago, an American Man with my brothers surname of PLACE phoned him after Freds surname appeared in the phone book after his move from Victoria. There had not previously in the previous phonebook been any one with that name. This chap had been living in Australia for 15 years and after holidaying in Tasmania, sold his boat he had built and bought a house with the money in Bridport not far from where my brother lives in Launceston Northeast Tasmania, we are in the Northwest. He phoned Fred as he also had been intereste! d in Family History and had traced his family back to the first Pilgrim Families and wanted to see where Freds family came in. Fred told him I was interested, but I have so far been too busy to get on the line for a nice lengthy chat, like we Genealogist need. Coming up soon though. the fellow would be very informative of his family as he is 82 years old. He was an Engineer. Comes from Massechusetts, with New Hampshire ties as well. He has been married for 52 years and has two daughters, one who just so happens lives in the same vacinity as me in Burnie. Haven't had any contact as yet, knowing me I will get around to it. So it is indeed a small world. My overall point being, look across the seas, if you cannot find your alusive family member, who you think may have a bit of information as they may have gone elsewhere. I guess you could try looking at the immigration records your end to see if there are any Armstrongs amongst the folk leaving the country. It would most likely say where they were going to. By ship or plane, who knows even by cargo boat. I know we can hitch a ride in a cabin if you have a family member working for a shipping company. I do and Rob and I have in fact been across to the mainland on a cargo vessel. Edie

    1. [ARMSTRONG-L] NON Gen-International Airplane Deaths for 2001-2001
    2. Rob and Edie McArthur
    3. Hi, Nothing to do with Genealogy, but for those of us a little bit wary still to travel by plane long distance, I thought these statistics may interest you. Compared to Car Accidents in each country alone, the plane deaths are very small indeed, for the whole world. These numbers appeared in our local rag today. The information comes from London (DPA). The number of people killed in airline accidents rose last year for the first time since 1996, according to the figures published by the aviation magazine Flight International. There were 1022 fatalities in 2002 compared with 778 in 2001, and thre number of airline accidents involving deaths also increased from 33 in 2001 to 40 last year. Until last year, accident numbers had been declining steadily each year since 1996. Flight international said the overall trend for the last 6 years still showed gradually improving safety, and the figures for 2002 remained below the annual average for the preceeding decade. The areas of the world with good safety records are: Europe, North America and Australiasia all enjoyed reasonably safe years - so there is no cause for alarm in those regions. The record has been less good in Taiwan, Russia, Africa and South America. It says it was dissapointing to see South America in the this catergory as in recent years there had been signs of improvement. There is more but that more or less says it all. Edie
