    1. [ARMSTRONG-L] Rhyme (Redneck Family Tree)
    2. Rob and Edie McArthur
    3. Hi, This appeared on our Tasmania list today. Very confusing. I haven't checked the relationships out, but they sound ok. Anyone with a family history like this. Edie Redneck Family Tree Many many years ago when I was twenty three, I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be. This widow had a grown-up daughter Who had hair of red. My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed. This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife. To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy. I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy. My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad. For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother. Father's wife then had a son, Who kept them on the run. And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son. My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, She's my grandma too. If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild. For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa!!

    3. It was Phil Silvers, I think. And--- the words are: Many Many years ago when I was twenty-three,.. I was married to a widow who was pretty as could be. For now I have become the strangest case you ever saw: As husband of my grandmother I am my own grandpaw. ENJOY! One year for Christmas my family gave me a framed version of this little poem. 3. Cousin Chuck's cyber recipe. I offer up the bottle of exquisite single malt and the box of cubanos that somehow found their way into my duffel bag on the sail back from Barcelona in November. While they are best consumed after midnight in the Straits of Gib. while sitting on the fantail watching the lights of Spain and Morocco fade in the distance they are equally tasty while gazing out over the Padre canals. On second thought, better bring your own. Supplies will not last much more than another week or so. 1. RE: [ARMSTRONG-L] Cabin Fever !
    2. Chuck Armstrong
    3. Ben, it is also very cold out here in Island Paradise. The cold snap (down in the 50's today) has become the greatest local source of conversation among the Islanders since last year when the Clan A. descended upon the Island for a Cyber party. The Island has never quite recovered from that wild cyber party. The neighbor ladies, many of whom could once be observed daily lounging next to the canal in their bikinis, now gaze cautiously from behind their drapes. (In some cases, that is not such a bad deal.) I did mention to one of the neighbors that her drapes could use a good pressing but she says they don't have drapes. Oh, well, live and learn. Speaking of snaps, my knee surgery today was a snap. He snapped that rascal to port, and he snapped it to starboard, and then he snapped it fore and aft. Seems to be good and knew now. 2. Vicki Showers
    3. Ok fellow A's, is it any wonder our ancestors were reivers, all someone has to do is mention a party, and everyone comes out to play!!! I don't care where we party, however I will not offer Iowa, it is colder than H here, we have had a fantastic winter, right now NO SNOW, which is wonderful to me, but it has turned brutally cold. Alaska weather the last couple of weeks -15 this morning and of course, being Iowa, windy! Since hubby, Duane has had more heart problems, he has had to quit work, at 50 no less.He did manage to get a couple of deer this fall, and caught walleye, so thats what I"ll bring. Don't be supprised if he carts along some fine oak furniture, that is what he is doing in his woodworking shop, keeps him busy and he can quit and rest when he needs to. Just don't have this party anywhere near a lake or timber or we will lose John D. and Duane, they will be off hunting or fishing. I love to dance so I'll wear confortable shoes, and of course jeans, cause I plan to go horse back riding, haven't for years since I sold my horse years ago. Horses are my 2nd love, (have to claim hubby and boys first to be safe). Still looking for any info on that rascal Francis Armstrong b/abt 1619-1629, SOMEWHERE, in Ireland, married Frances Bennett, children Francis b<1660, Elizabeth b<1658, Philemon b/abt. 1660, all born in Talbot MD. 200 Acres called "Weeping Springs" were surveyed for him in Talbot County, MD. 10-13-1663. Anyone know the old gent?? Hey, I also have a son that needs a wife he's 29, (youngest is 21 he can wait awhile.) !!!! :>)) I'll have to bring my camera just to get more pictures of Fount in the corner, covered with crab shells. One thing about a cyber party, no one has any proof, right Fount!! Later, Vicki in cold NW Iowa

    2. My grandmother's sister had an aunt by marriage. Her uncle died. The aunt by marriage remarried. My grandmother's sister married one of the sons of her aunt by marriage and the new husband. So my great aunt's mother in law was also her aunt. This from red neck country, Tennessee. I always wondered why there were jokes about cousins marrying in the South. After starting genealogy I know why but it does not only pertain to the South, just look at England's royal family. Julia (Wright) Molitz Nice and warm in California

    3. Cousin Edie, No, best I can figure, some of Samuel's siblings first crossed over to PA and then moved down to SC. Samuel and his young wife, her parents and Samuel's widowed mother and their first child, crossed over to SC to obtain some of the free land offered to immigrants at the time. They were just poor farmers of the Presbyterian faith, as were many of the Armstrongs at the time. 3. Looking for my elusive gggrandfather-Lathaniel Lafayette Armstrong. Know that he was in the Cairo, Alexander County, IL in the 1880's, he approx 20 years old. Married to Angeline Skiles in 1879, but I lose him after that. On the 1880 census records there were no children. But on the 1900 census Angeline is listed as head of household with children-Clarence 16 Effie May 14 Mrytle 12 and Claud 9. Old Lathaniel had be have been around for a few years after the 1880 census! Can't imagine where he would have disappeared to! Looks like the remaining family members stayed in this general area until at least 1916 when Angeline died at the home of her daughter Effie Woodward. I do not know what ever happened to Mrytle-Claude died in E St Louis, IL in 1943 Clarence , my grandfather, married Almedia Mize approx 1909, can not find where they were wed, but they were in Cairo in 1910 census, children-Effie, Louis, Carl, Leona (Flossie), Eugene. Clarence died in 1931 in Cairo IL. Almedia (Medy) died in 1955 in E St Louis, IL. Any one with any information of this family, would sure be a godsend! Good Luck to all Linda

    3. Ben, Your certainly welcome to come up to Alaska for a visit. The Alcan highway is paved most all the way now. It was pure gravel when I first drove it back in (never mind).! If your coming in the winter, I'd suggest you bring your own Snow Machine, Ski's (both down hill and cross country) and snow shoes. I'd loan you some of mine, but you'd have to arm wrestle the grandkids for em. There's always a lot of talk about Cabin Fever up here in Jan and Feb, but I could never understand why... We're kinda short on daylight here in December, as it gets down to 5 hrs or less then, but right now we've got over (just barely) 7 hours of daylight. Bring some good sunglasses cause that sun is bright (when it's out) !! At night, you could be treated to a brilliant display of Northern lights, such as we had last night about midnight.. The Orientals believe it is extremely good fortune to concieve a child while the Northern lights are flashing. but if you've already had 10 kids, then your probably not interested in that (anymore). But, if your going to wimp out and wait til summer to come when we have over 21 hours of official daylight, then just bring lots of sun screen and bug dope Sincerely, John D Ben Sessions wrote: >Down here in the Houston,Texas area,we get cabin fever >during two seasons. It's supposed to get down to the >mid 20's during this cold snap so we'll have to close >the doors & hug the stove. >Then in summer, with the heat & humidity,we have to hug >the a/c.
