    3. Hi everyone, I am new to this list. My grandmother was Jane Anne Armstrong, apparently born in Ashington Northumberland, and I know she had a sister called Jean Anne (Jeanne) my grandmother Jane Anne married a Jordan. I seem to think she may have been born around 1890. My mother was born 1.1.1909 in Ashington, her name was Isabella Jordan. She married my father James Henry Birch in Thorne South Yorkshire 21.4.1930. I have no certificates so things are hard to trace. I have found one Isabella (Elsie) Jordan on 1837online, who was born in Walsall. (Not quite sure where this is). Any help would be appreciated. Regards Kris, Narrogin Western Australia.

Thanks Foxie Hagerty Infomation coming about Hugh Alexander Armstrong, I got from the files of Aileen Terpening. This is something somebody had typed up for her from the Ruth Bradway's files. It also had the history of William Richey who was Martha Isabelle Richey Armstrong's younger brother. William Richey's wife Jane Scott Richey was first cousin to Hugh Alexander Armstrong. COPIED FROM BIBLE BELONGING TO: Alexander Armstrong COUNTY F ERMANAGH PARISH OF DERRYVOLAND BAR ONY OF TYKENNEDY PROVINCE OF ULSTER/IRELAND THE OLD HOME WAS CALLED "USKEVUEW", ENNISJUILLEN, COUNTY FERMANAGH, IRELAND. She was born May 2, 1812, died February 5, 1888. Alexander and Martha left Ireland with their eight children October 3, 1854, arrived in New York November 23, 1854, arrived in Abingdon December 7, 1854. Sometime late the family settled in Kelly Township, Warren County, IL. This the story of the first Armstrong who went from Scotland to Ireland; (copied from a letter from Stella Kellogg Wright to Aileen Terpening August 27, 1952. I think he is the father of my grandfather which would be William who married Jane Montgomery avoe. "Anyway, he must have been a good man as he was just on a business trip but took time to go to church and there he saw a girl who took his fancy and he said he would not go back to SCotland until he met her. After a most arduous courtship he convinced her that he was her one and only heart throb, so he came back and they were married. The family lived at Enniskillen, County Fermanag, Paris of Derryvolland, Barony of Tyrkennedy, Province of Ulster, Ireland. Their home was called "Isleview"; because they could see so many Islands in a neaby lakes. The origin of the name Armstrong was also in Stella's letter: "Long ago a Scotich king had a retainer by the name of Graeme, who was a tall man an very strong. One day while riding with his retainer, the king fell from his horse and Graeme picked him up in his arms and lifted him onto his saddle. Therefore, the King changed his name to ARstreon because of the great strenth in his arms. The King also gave him a cost-of-arms. Georgia Grice, Hugh Armstrong's sister, showed me her b eautiful china, which was decorated with this coat=of=Arms. She also told me that her brother, William has well as other relatives had this ccoat-of-Arms on their carriage doors. William Armstrong married Jane Montgomery. Our Armstrongs may have been from Cleenish, Fermanagh, Ireland, and probably came to U.S. via Canada, though again, I'm working on theory and probability, rather than absolutely documented info as yet. 1. [ARMSTRONG-L] DNA Study & Results Update 10 April 2003
    2. David B. Strong
    3. Hello Everyone. I've just posted a set of updated results in the DNA Study. There are additional results which represent PP3 values re kits # 6811 and 6643, respectively. Apparently, someone at the lab has been on vacation, as we have had a lull in receiving results until now; hopefully we will have additional results soon. We now have 27 participants in the study; with results posted re 22 of them. The analysis of results is an on-going process; I have updated the "Interpretation of Results" section of the webpage again. Please take a look at the results, and pass along any questions or comments which you may have. See: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegalstrongs/dnaresults.htm We welcome any additional participants who may wish to join. Now that we are beginning to see the development of certain recognizable "haplotypes" in the study, I hope we can become fairly effective in assisting some participants to narrow the scope of their research by identifying the likely lineage group of their previously unknown ancestry, eg., we hope to aid in "breaking down some of the brickwalls". {:-) There are probably more distinct haplotypes out there, however, and we can use all the help we can get in establishing their DNA "signatures". In addition, I am aware that at some time in the past certain members of the Armstrong List may have had some testing done; I believe it was by "Ancestry". I would be most interested in discussing the results from that testing with them. There are some problems in comparing results between testing organizations, but it might be very useful to review the results. (I suspect there may be relationships between persons bearing differing surnames (but who have similar DNA signatures), which may be traced to various events. A considerable number of such relationships may occur with regard to persons having Scots or Border ancestry, and I am interested in trying to track such relationships.) I hope to hear from the interested persons involved. Regards Dave Strong ...
