my personal preference is Aboriginal American but I usually have to settle for "fat boy" "squat" or "crabby old fart". Today, by the way, is Columbus Day. Most of us don't observe the day but I do because he led the way for my little ISicilian honey's grandparents. So happy Columbus Day to all you invaders. Well, Marilynn, you SAID it. Just don't insert foot. :)) Mary
I don't know if there are any Armstrongs of color researching on this list although I think there was one at one time, plus several Native Americans at one time. I always thought that most of the African-American or Black Armstrongs had taken a "slave name" or the name of the person who "owned" them. Don't know if this is correct, but I believe in many cases this is true. But who knows if many of them had children related to the owner...I believe that it happened fairly often...so that would make them Armstrongs by blood and not just from taking a name. It's like Thomas Jeffererson's family finding that they had many blood relatives who had African-American and Jeffersonian genes... cousin Marilyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "R Hobbs" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 09, 2006 8:59 AM Subject: Re: [ARMSTRONG] OT > When I reply to this, is it sent out to everyone? I have 3 kids, unfortunately smoked through all 3 pregnancies (didn't know any better then), and every one of them weighed 8 1/2 lbs. Don't ask me why. It was as though they were all out of the same mold. Lots and lots about green potatoes if you go to www.google.com and put "green potatoes" in the search box. More info than you ever wanted to know. No, no, steak Diane is a delicious dish that involves sauteeing and flaming. It's cooked and a really fancy, good dish. Steak or beef tartare is the raw stuff...I wouldn't dare to eat any raw ground beef these days...too many possibilities for e.coli or other bugs to getcha. Being from Idaho, I thought I should jump in although, if you notice, I am so reticent, I usually stay out of conversations! In Idaho, we have large structures in which the freshly harvested potatoes are stored. These are temperature controlled and out of sunlight. My brother-in-law used to give us sacks of potatoes when we visited. Yum!! I won't buy potatoes in the store unless they say "Idaho" on them and if they say "Packed in Twin Falls, ID," I pass because that probably means they were grown in maybe Washington (Apples, remember?) and only packed in Twin Falls which is not a potato growing area. Eastern Idaho is where the goodies are. Marilynn IBSSG

Rob, don't buy ANYTHING green---especially meat, cottage cheese, and anything that gets up and walks. Lettuce, Beet Greens, onions, celery--they are probably okay, but only if they don't get up and walk. I don't trust ANYTHING that climbs out of the fridge by itself. And all the excuses in the world will not stop me from yammering at you----quit smoking, quit smoking, quit smoking!!!! Killed Webb's first wife, and my best friend and didn't do much good for my Grandma's heart, either. I SAID I knew the origin of that song. I know the Brits started it. They started a lot of stuff, much of which we could do without. I know the origin of "Little Jack Horner" and a lot of other Nursey Rhymes also. My mother was determined to make an orator out of me. All she did was make my big mouth bigger. "Also, are any of you in your little chat group (emails) here black? I was told there were so many black Armstrongs, especially from the south....is this true?" Hi Renee :) Let's see ... I'm an Armstrong descendant (yes, I know, only by adoption, sigh!!), I'm in the south (okay, it's temporary, humour me!!) but I'm as white as the ... what WOULD I put in there? Snow? Yeah, that'll do, I glow in the dark! lol But MY Armstrongs hail from Northumberland and Durham, haven't managed to get back any further than that I'm afraid. Anyway, I haven't met a single Armstrong since we've been in GA, so they must be in hiding, black OR white!! ;D Take care, Rob.
"What does it all mean"? I know, do you?" Hi George :) I do, yes, and I think I just posted the whole interpretation, didn't I? Darn, that'll teach me to find, copy/paste and not read ALL of it, won't it? lol My brain's a muddle, I've been denied my caffeine and nicotine all morning to have an EKG done and I'm showing withdrawal signs of both. Time for a hot cuppa I think, and you can't get more English than that!! ;D Take care, Rob. (Who really IS Australian, honest, but I'm a Royalist, just love the Queen!! lol)

The site I just found also said you can just cut the green off, but I've read differently on two other sites when we were in Germany, both American sites from memory. Anyway, according to the Mayo Clinic, they're "probably okay to eat". The email address I have for Ron Barnett is: [email protected] I should be interested in the information that you have, David. Incidentally, a couple of years ago there was some correspondence in the Armstrong lists - it should still be there - on the Sir Thomas Armstrong who was executed in 1687. I put up a rather gothic acount of his execution at Tyburn Place drawn froma Victorian book of horrors. He was hung, drawn and quartered. Not all that long afterwards he was pardoned, not that it did him much good, and his chief accuser expelled from Parliament. This being pardon allowed his widow and daughter to reclaim considerable property, cash and annuities that had been confiscated by the State upon his being convicted for treason - the cause of this being his part in the Rye House Plot.
