    3. I am trying to find more information on the Mrs. Hatcher that is mentioned in the following article. Bettie is my great grandmother and am trying to locate any information on her sister that also drowned. I have it pretty well figured out that the deaths occured rite about 1905 or so. Does anyone know where she may be buried as she is not with her sister Bettie. thank you windi "The Heritage of Blytheville, Arkansas" by Ophelia Richardson Wade cpr 1973 "Page 20-" Bettie Smiley(Bettie Smile, aged 38 when she died, buried North Sawba) drowned in the bayou near Luke's (Luke Idumea Richardson 1868-1951) house. She left her husband, John Smiley (John P. Smiley, 1862-1942, buried Elmwood Cem.Blytheville) and about five children. She, her sister (Mrs Hatcher), and the baby were out riding in a small boat, when it overturned and neither of them could swim. The baby's rubber pants kept it afloat. The woman sunk to the bottom and they had to dive and huge hooks to find their bodies. John Smiley sat on a stump ar the edge of the bayou while all this was going on, because he could not swim either. Robert Sander's mother and father raised one of the Smiley girls. Arthur Massey married the girl that the Sanders raised.
