He married Jemima Hatley2 September 25, 1901 in Randolph County, Pocahontas, Ark3,4, daughter of Pleasant Hatley and Lydia Hawkins. She was born July 20, 1877 in Arkansas5,6, and died December 20, 19057,8. Listed in the 1900 Arkansas Census as 22 years old, single and living with her father, PBF, head of household. Married in 1901 and died in 1905. Short life. She and her sister, Rosetta, both died at an early age; Jemima possibly during child birth and Rosetta's gown caught on fire from a fireplace spark. Marriage information obtained from the Randolph County Marriage Index, 1893-1923, as well as a copy of her marriage license. dsh 4/1997 According to the Clay County Cemeteries List, Jemima is buried at Richwoods Cemetery, West of Corning, Ark. Her stone was erected by a friend, J A Lewis. Jemima's father, PBF, was first married to Bernetta Houseman Lewis, who had previously been married to a Lewis and they had a son in this union by the name of George. Any connection? dsh 10/1997 Per the 1900 US Census, Jemima is listed as the only occupant of PBF's household; Current River Township, Clay County, Ar. Per Lillian Jones Samons, wife of Owen, she remember her mother-in-law "speaking often of the two sisters, Jemima and Rosetta Hatley". Lillian's mother-in-law was Margannie Jane Parker, wife of Simon Peter Samons. These records are the original marriage license that was never picked up by the parties involved or in later years by family members of said parties. As of this date (June 8, 2000) there are a total of 514 marriage license, which are available to be claimed by interested family members.
